Big Momma's House

First impressions are "Mrs Doubtfire", but BMH is a lot less pretentious and a lot funnier. And Robin Williams is nowhere in sight.

Ok, sure, Martin Lawrence's act is the same one he's used before, but it's not nearly as worn out as Williams'.

BMH is a big old 'Happy Meal' of a movie - it's not Michelin-rated dining but you know exactly what you're getting, and it'll fill you up until you can eat something more nutritious.

MI-2

Forget the battle between Tom Cruise and Dougray Scott - how about the war between Tom Cruise and John, over just whose film this is?

I felt this was a lot more fun than The World Is Not Enough, which it bears more than a passing resemblance in terms of plot, and possibly in terms of franchise potential.

The Whole Nine Yards

Notable only for being directed by Jonathan Lynn (co-creator of Yes Minister), and for Amanda Peet getting her kit off.

Not that I wasn't impressed by or appreciative of that last one, mind you, but it just seemed like a really cheap and tacky way of spicing up some really dull leftovers.

Gone in 60 Seconds

Forget highbrow notions like plot, characters, dialogue...

60 Secs is about one thing: the best, most finely-crafted automotive machinery the world has to offer, going really, really fast.

Some say a movie's soundtrack is 50% of the experience. Here it's 75%. The leopard-like growl of a Porsche 911 Carrera in top gear. The throaty roar of a Shelby GT-500KR. The mechanical symphony that is the Ferrari 355!

If the cinema you see and hear this movie in, doesn't have full surround-sound cranked all the way up so you can feel the engine sounds rumbling up your shin bones, ask for your money back.
