er, what i meant was, er, that, er, well, er, when i was in york/UK on saint paddy's day a few years back all the young girls were running around seminaked in spite of snowfall, storm, bitter cold and what have you. all the girls in miniskirts had legs that looked like blue thights even if they weren't wearing any, see?
phew, talk about close call

i know. it's certain citizens in our old colonies. they seem to be so ungrateful in spite of all the culture and stuff we have taught them over the years

Gwennie Posted Dec 11, 2006
When did the topic change to the 's old colon and why would you like it? Is this some kind of colonial perversion that I was previously unaware of?

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~ Posted Dec 11, 2006
so do i
a few weeks back i saw hugh laurie (actor from london, who for the time being w*rks in the US) on ellen degeneres' talkshow. he mentioned that he goes back to wife and kids in london when everybody else in the US celebrate thanksgiving. "we don't do that in the UK", he said, "we just sit around mourning the loss of the colonies".
he earned a lot of laughs, but i was thinking "watch it, young man, you brits used to be *our* colonies!

the only disappointing thing i ever saw with fry was 'gosford hall' which otherwise is a brilliant film
fry was too good for his role as a somewhat befuddled police investigator

Gwennie Posted Dec 12, 2006
I own Gosford Park on DVD too and I agree with you about his role. Have you watched Bright Young Things?
Linus, as I don't want to leave you unejeecayted, this is Auntie's own link to QI http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbctwo/programmes/?id=qi and this is the link to Stephen Fry's beeb biography: http://www.bbc.co.uk/arts/livingicons/bio06.shtml
and to the dear chap's website: http://www.stephenfry.com/
Enjoy!

i have both watched and enjoyed quite a few bright young things over the years - and still do - but no, this title means nothing to me

Gwennie Posted Dec 14, 2006
I'm sure you have my dear !
Bright Young Things is a film, directed by Stephen Fry and based on the novel by Evelyn Waugh.
I really enjoyed the film, although critics weren't that kind to it.
