No I just got stuffed with work yesterday afternoon and then went out last night
The canoe club were having a pub quiz, so I thought it best to show my face and endure a few questions about why I'd not been seen and if I was going to get in my boat this year
So far the ones I've thought of that you look at and think oh I must get that sometime (but then never do) are
Pet Sounds - The Beach Boys (or any Beach Boys album from the 60's)
Abbey Road - The Beatles (or any of the original Beatles albums specially Revolver, Sgt Pepper and Abbey Rd)
Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield
Chill Out - The KLF (avaliable on import)
Other people - The Birds, Mamas and Papas, John Martyn, Nick Drake, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, The Animals, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald.
How long do you want this list to be?
And why all the old things? Well you seem to be quite good at getting new releases

Wow - that'll teach me
work... whasssat?
did you win? ... the quiz and the biggest question of all - will you get into a boat (boats in a canoe club?) this year?
you're right about the old stuff, i was thinking new though great selection. some i've already got, like nick drake, john martyn (my mum went to school with him!) some beatles stuff on tape that i want on cd but mike oldfield? eh?
i was thinking new and funky, there are plenty of new stuff i haven't got (was it you that was talking about jason downs?) besides it seem a bit of a waste ask for chrimbo the old stuff you get for a fiver in fopp (know what i mean?) seems like a waste of christmas. christmas present are things you'd not normally buy yourself, or in my case, things i never got round to buying, old stuff kinda smacks of 'food processor' - god, never happy!
have you got a fun-filled, dentist-free weekend planned?
highlight of my weekend will be seeing air ... hope its not too chilled
Tremendous
Solsbury Posted Oct 26, 2001
OK then new stuff...
The Adam F album, Albums by Outcast and The Spooks.
One from a few years back I still like, Merz - Merz.
Ronni Size, the one from Kosheen.
Afro Celt Sound System (volume 1 - sound magic, is the best but Vol2 Release and Vol3 Further in Time are good as well).
As for Mike Oldfield. I like Tubular Bells

Solsbury Posted Oct 26, 2001
Oh and yes I was in the winning team (and knew some of the answers) with a clean sweep. The quizmaster must be making them easier
The club generally refer to the canoes and kayaks as boats (well they float and hold people above the water). I might well see if I can get on one of the trips to devon before the end of the year and see how bad my paddling has got
This weekend I'm not doing anything much - sleeping I think
If the new Air album is anything to go by then it shouldn't be too chilled (unless the air con has the temp set right down )

Solsbury Posted Oct 29, 2001
It was a good weekend. Bought a few CDs
The Pulp album is great, Aphex Twin was interesting, Bromide was good, Eels didn't blow me away.
I want to listen to it again though as I wasn't at my best when I heard it.

ach, i'm really sorry to hear your world wasn't rocked by eels (okay, i'm coloured by my very deep love for E) 'freash feeling' is beautiful song (i want someone to write a song like that for me <wistful smiley>, its also the best song East 17 never recorded
God, you know you are so right about my shockingly poor record collection. its so lopsided Listening to Pulp; obviously i've heard of Scott Walker, but i've never actually heard any of his stuff (at least consciously anyway) how bad is that?
Went to see air last night, very good.

Scott Walker, the Walker brothers and all that. You probably have heard songs like The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Any More and No Regrets. Big orchestral torch songs with him singing in that fantastic velvet like voice of his.
Fresh Feeling was one I did like on first hearing. As I said I wasn't feeling to good when I heard it yesterday. I'll listen to it again tonight and see how I feel (took a few listens to get the Spiritualised album as well).
Glad Air were good. Did they rock or was it an altogether more mellow affair?

not feeling too well? a night on the tiles? i hope its nothing too serious and that you're bouncing soon
yeah, i've heard the sun ain't.... an' 'at, but i'm not too familiar with his big velvety voice. i'm a wumin with a mission (although it might be delayed for christmas festivities); i'm going to be mithering you for ideas on how to prop up my lopsided record collection
bit of a mixture really, it was new stuff/old stuff/new stuff/old stuff. not too much bouncing and not too many opportunities to booty dance (a collective sigh of relief from the crowd at the barralands) but i tapped my toe from time to time.
bought my ticket to see pulp; i can see lots of booze; lots of lary girls and trying to lick jarvis

I'm expected to help on a misshun!
I was just feeling somewhat fed up about work and stuff on sunday morning. I was feeling much better by the time I went to bed (amazing what some fresh air and a bottle of wine can do for your outlook on life).
Lot's of lary girls trying to lick Jarvis, you wouldn't be included in that crowd would you

would you be surprised if i were one of those lary girls? ... no don't answer that i'm really a sweet, demure young lady (alright, you can stop laffing now!)
if there's anything i can do, okay so i'm not medically trained, i'm not pastorally trained and i live in glasgow, but hey, anytime! (providing that monday -friday, 9-5!) but the offer's there

I suppose I'll get to meet you and find out what you're like in just under a months time
Thanks for the
It was just one of those weeks last week!

And if you get the chance listen to The Critical List, R2, 9pm saturdays. Stuart Maconnie is doing a series all about albums and what you might like to go out and buy - each week is some sort of theme (last week was torch songs) and pulls out a few things that you may have heard of and some that you won't.
Don't be put off by the fact it's on R2. R2 is a happening station (some of the time) according to the Sunday Times radio review section, the best national radio music show is Jonathan Ross on saturday morning R2.

thanks, i've caught r2 a couple of times (used to listen to Paul Jone's blues show on a thursday night); i'll listen out for it, i like stuart marconnie; very funny bloke (northern men make me laff i've caught jonathan ross a couple of times, but the demon telly has got her poisionous claws into me on a saturday morning (can he compete with the soccor am and wwf wrestling? ); he's bringing the format to the TV, should be interesting!
if the northern comment above hasn't scared you - i'm looking forward to meeting you too

Solsbury Posted Oct 31, 2001
It's been better. Not as bad as yesterday though.
How many suggestions did I manage for you and do you need some more?
Leaning to one side like Gourock
weegie Posted Oct 31, 2001
was yesterday a bitch? i spent the day in dundee, that's why i'm having a bad one today - got no work done yesterday! and two - two 1/2 hour meetings today - i've still not done any work! i was spying on the art college's open day!
what was wrong with yours?
i'm always open to suggestions
Leaning to one side like Gourock
Solsbury Posted Oct 31, 2001
Lots of things went wrong with the release I was doing yesterday - things not set up correctly, differences between the test and production computer systems. I've been continuing with the stuff today but it still isn't finished.
As for suggestions...
how about Add N to X
Leaning to one side like Gourock
weegie Posted Oct 31, 2001
and that's why you're still in work at nearly 5.45? bummer.
who add n to x?
well never mind, that's wednesday - the hump of the week - over - bring on the weekend
