Never rains but it pours as the saying goes.
Let's hope this latest gets sorted soon.
Poor ST. It's his turn for some good luck for a change

Yes, I have!
I spoke to ST this evening....
ANYWAY! It seems he's purchased a reconditioned wotsit to put in a thingy and he's currently downloading to it.. (or is that uploading? No! Definitely downloading)
Should all go well, he might be able get back online over the weekend!

Good grief Ivan, what time is it where you are? I usually see you in the wee hours here.

I'm back with a somewhat mixed bag for a pc for the time being at least. I've fitted a replacement, (secondhand) motherboard, HDD, PSU and fan. Slightly less power in terms of processor speed and ability but good enough for now. It'll struggle with the Graphics Programming so that's on hold for now. Perfectly adequate though for the rest of my software to run and at a reasonable speed for now. I'm using the following for those of a techy nature:-
Processor = x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping Authentic AMD Athlon~2079 Mhz, clock speed 333MHz
Total Physical Memory = 1,024mb. SD DDR
As I'm more into software issues than hardware I have been informed the clock speed can be increased but I have no idea how or whether it's safe to do anyway.
I'm also just using Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 for now as well, have left off Linux, I wasn't impresed with it anyway to be honest, lots compatability issues with existing software.
The laptop I had loaned to a so called friend came back wrecked and is now scrap, no point attempting a repair on that, it's getting on for 9 years old and is 'old' technology compared to whats available now. I will have to do without for now, no pennies for replacement anyway. Suffice to say any eventual replacement won't be loaned out again without me first being certain whoever it goes to has some knowledge of how to use a PC without doing untold damage.
The current PC will do for now untill I get enough pennies to replace fully, again it's getting on, it's 8 years old and really needs either some serious upgrading or replacing.
As for lost data etc., well, I had backed up all data either in online systems like BT's Digital Vault and Windows Sky Drive or saved to CD, so apart from installing original programs I actually only lost the equivalent of a days work/postings and mail replies so all in all not a total diaster. All photo's, including family stuff were all stored in Flickr so no losses there either. I have over 2gb of music stored as well which is also safe.
For the non-techy:-
"as his thingummy won't answer to his wotsit! He's twiddled it, but it still won't respond"
It does respond now Lil. The thingummy that held the gigglepin had become slack in the wotsit resulting in a severe case of canker up the bosnotics.
"So, if you want to talk about him behind his back, now is your opportunity"
I heard that, pardon?
"Oh, yes... And he said it was a hard drive.. But never said where he was going"
Well the answer to that is obvious, back to HooToo land.
"With that, the battery ran out on his phone"
Took some catching too that chuffin battery!
Best be off and do some catching up now, thanks to Lil for posting the journal explaining my absence of late, don't you just love her techy jargon eh?

that is why I switched to mac!
100% less computer stress
also handy is saving on my electric bill
...first year about 25%
...second year I dumped my vcr, digital tv decoder and monitor
...bought digital tv receiver / recorder for my mac
...connected the mac to my hd tv saved about another 25%
...total savings about 50%
