Hi all, still around, just!! Doing battle with a pc that frankly seems to have reached it's use by date me thinks. Takes a while to persuade it to remember it has to load things like keyboard, mouse and monitor in order to be able to use it.
Like humans, as we get older our memories tend to fade somewhat, seems this pc is suffering the same. The extra cooling fan seems to have helped, it's no longer overheating. (unlike me when it plays up that is!! )

I've left the sound system disconnected as well as other 'not quite essential' equipment in order to reduce the workload so all being well it'll "tide" me over for now.

I remember when I was having all that trouble with mine last year - I once put it back together, but forgot to plug the keyboard in. On start-up, I got an error message - "Error: Keyboard not detected. Press F1 to continue"

With most sincere thanks to Auntie giggles and hubby I am now up and running with a replacement PC. I'm able to do most things I did with my other unit with the exception of the videoing software as memory capacity is half that's required to run my video software plus the graphics card is also short on memory. Otherwise I can run 'routine' software including the digital Photo package which is great. My old unit is going to the PC Training centre I'm studying at, they will have a look at repairing it as part of the ongoing training program there which is great. Kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak, the students get practice and I hopefully get a repaired pc.
(I swapped the hard drive for a smaller drive that just has XP on it, saved me taking all my software off, I'll swap them back when the pc is returned. )
Big to Lil and a
for hubby.
