Neglected!
Posted Jul 14, 2002
It has been rather a long time since I worte a journal entry - so much else to do I guess.
Things trot along at a fairly hectic pace here as per normal. We are in the middle of revamping the kitchen - which leads to the rest of the downstairs needing attention followed closely by the upstairs! You know how it goes... a few licks of paint in one place make the rest look terrible.
Still - give me a few months and I may get it done - I AM a member of the Procrastinators Society after all!
I tracked down a copy of Might and Magic VIII on ebay recently, plus a cut price version of M&M IX, so I have the whole series (including Heroes) up to date now - something tells me it was not a good idea to install VIII whilst all this decorating is staring me in the face. Oh well - TM has finally invested in a dvd player and plenty of films, so he doesn't mind too much when I pop upstairs to 'take my men out' (even though the 'hero' of M&M VIII is actually a heroine). eh?

You know how it goes!
You can't sleep
Words keep going around and around in your head and won't let you rest.
What do you do?
Last night I started to hum 'The Nightmare Song' by Gilbert and Sullivan.
The words wouldn't all fall into place though, so I invented my own.
Here, for my own rememberance as much as anything, they are:
When you're lying in bed
And the voice in your head
Keeps repeating and saying
'Just go to sleep'
And though, try as you do,
There is no sleep for you,
Then the only recourse is to
'Count the sheep'.
~~~~~~~~~
You start slowly with one...
Try to not let him run...
And persuade him right up to
The picket gate.
But he pauses too long
And you know you've gone wrong
When he turns round and tells you
'It's far too late'.
~~~~~~~~~
Now you breathe with a rasp
As you see, with a gasp,
That the hour hand has
Moved on the clock.
And that solit'ry sheep
In meadowgrass so deep
Has become an entire bloomin' flock!
~~~~~~~~~
So you suddenly find
As the bedclothes unwind
And your partner snores on
Like a log
That you no longer count,
But whistle and shout
Like a shepherd from
'One Man and His Dog'.
~~~~~~~~~
When you're lying awake
With a dreadful headache
And the sleep stays away
And just out of reach.
Just think of that flock
And the hands on the clock
And try counting the waves
On a sandy beach.
~~~~~~~~~
But keep in control
Or the power of your soul
Will find some other dastardly
Trick to play.
The next thing that you see
Will most probably be
A troupe of white horses
Around the bay.
~~~~~~~~~
And try as you may
Night soon moves to day
And the only real rest you can win
Is if you give up
And go for a cup
Filled with freshly boiled milk
And some gin!
~~~~~~~~~
The end... for now!
He and his beautiful wife Nikki have just presented me with a new bouncing baby granddaughter to join my grandson Lee.
Name and other details to follow!
Now... I have to work out when I can fly over and see them.
