A Life on Horseback

My name is Nick. I'm 60 years old (in 2006) and not all that well-off. The only accommodation I can afford is a tent(s). I own three, one of which is so well-appointed that I can stand up in it!!! I live in the open, travelling about on my little mare, Mandy, accompanied by my packhorses, my packmules, Sally, my Caucasian sheepdog, and Angelica, my Siamese cat. The views from my many varied and spacious estates are magnificent, and water (streams) and electricity (solar panel) are free. THERE IS NO INCOME OR COUNCIL TAX!!!!!

In a couple of months, I'm setting out from the Caucasus (where I now live) to ride to the Cape - 10,000 miles across the Middle East and down the length of Africa. I hope to get there some time in 2009. After that, who knows? Turn round and head back north again to Europe, I suppose. Could be worse. (Actually, it could be much worse. I'm very happy as things are.)

For more about the journey, see:

"Das Paradies der Erde liegt auf den Rucken der Pferda" or
"Paradise on earth is on the backs of horses".
German cavalry motto.

P.S: For obvious reasons, I don't log in to h2g2 very often. So, in the highly unlikely event that someone wants to leave a message here, I will reply but don't hold your breath - it may be weeks, or months (or for ever if I lose an argument with a lion or a bunch of bandits) before I'm able to get round to it.
