Gone!
Posted Aug 30, 2003
The deed is done! I've officially moved in. My domestic bliss is somewhat hampered, however, by the lack of a phone line, and the wait of at least a fortnight before anyone can be bothered to come and install one. So if you see me online in the meantime, I'm not really here, I'm just a figment of your imagination.

Getting somewhere.

Right! The decorating is done, the carpets are fitted, there's a cooker, a fridge-freezer and a sofa all on their way, and I have the rest of the week off work in order to transfer my meagre possessions from their current resting place to their shiny new home.
I still need to sort out contents insurance and a TV licence. Can anyone think of anything else?

Monkey business.

Well, after months of speculation, wild supposition and downright lies, the truth is out. DaveCorp will not be renewing their contract with ChasCo, and will instead be employing a group of trained monkeys. As well as increasing the quality of the data processing, this also makes sound financial sense, as the Dollar is currently exceptionally strong against the Banana.
This, however, leaves us ChasCo employees a little nonplussed. Some of us are required to continue doing DaveCorp's dirty work for a further month as if nothing has happened. Others will be moving to a world of opportunity working on one of the new Directory Enquiries lines (to quote a ChasCo spokesman: "Not the one with the two guys, the other one - the dull one."). Other possible ventures include customer service for a mobile phone network, or cleaning the lavatories.
All things considerd, I think it may be time to move on.

The weekend - further details for nosy people.
Posted Aug 5, 2003
Well then. Set off from Edinburgh at 10:30 on Thursday morning on board that rarest of things: a train which ran more or less to schedule. Arrived in Nodnol to meet the young friend who would accompany me to the Book Of The Future launch party. Had to find the hotel first of course, which wasn't overly traumatic. Stopped off to buy a copy of the book, which was overly traumatic. Do Nodnolers really have nothing better to do of a Thursday evening than wander up and down Oxford Street getting in each other's way?
Anyway. Had a very pleasant time at the party, taking the precaution to order drinks two at a time so as to reduce the difficulty of getting served at the bar. This went fine for an hour or two until someone had the bright idea of ordering champagne. Needless to say, neither of us saw much of Friday.
Saturday was a bit clearer. Went for a wander along the south bank, ending up unexpectedly in Rotherhithe, where nobody seemed to be. Left there and, on a whim, ventured back across the city to Kew Gardens for a while. By now the long-promised heatwave had kicked in, and having neglected to take any kind of precautions, ended up looking not dissimilar to a beetroot on legs.
Sunday. Went wandering again. Unable to get to Hyde Park due to sheer weight of people, settled for Regents Park instead. Lazed. Then a mad dash back to Kings Cross to catch a train which then failed to leave until 20 minutes after its allotted time. All in all though, a rather splendid weekend.

Oh no, not again.

That EV, I don't know why he doesn't just go and live in Nodnol.
Yes, I'm off again, and will be incommunicado until Sunday evening at the very earliest. Lovely place, Communicado. Its mountains really have to be believed to be seen.
If you need me, please leave a message after the tone:
