Why do they always have the hero riding off into the sunset? Haven't they heard that destiny is the -rising- sun?

Well, I have to agree there... Generally the heros who ride off into the sunset are only half-baked.

Is that why they go towards the sunset? To get more..... baked?

They are probably off to the desert to find some peyote cacti, or in a different setting - to find some toads to lick.
