Contractually Obliged
Posted Sep 21, 2010
While I'm certain no one keeps track, I have had a few ideas gestating for a very long time that honestly deserve my attention. To that end, I plan to get the job done and knuckle down with some Entry writing. First on the list - 'The Olden Days'. It may well have been waiting longest for completion, but in all honesty I like the idea of doing it first because I get to watch the whole series yet again. Like 'Bargearse' after it, TOD provides a marvellous slice of simple humour. I'm looking forward to it.

Sub-due-d
Posted Jul 25, 2010
I have had subbing on the to-do list for the last fortnight, so it was something of a relief to finally get around to doing both outstanding articles this weekend. Often I'll find that I start going through an article, but the first sentences, or paragraph, will bring me to a dead stop. People don't necessarily set out to write in a way that bothers me this much - actually, they almost certainly don't - but, unintentionally, a lot of passive sentences and weird angles can bring me to a halt. A few years ago, I might not have been so sensitive - but, I spent a couple of years writing freelance for an editor who put great store in active writing. I fall foul often enough myself, but I review a lot and correct the slips.
So, sorry if editing your article takes a while. My inner 'editor' crept out probably...

Whacked

Off to see Dave Gorman later in the week, which could/should/will be nice, I'm sure. I have asked him whether I needed to bring a book; but, apparently, it won't be necessary and it would cause offence if I did. I'm sure I'll be effortlessly amused and entertained...

Snow Excuse
Posted Jan 11, 2010
I had to come into work today, because the snow has eased considerably and we had rain overnight that further turned icy roads to mere slush. Turned the heating off for the first time in about a fortnight because the overnight temperature hit an impressive degree or two above zero.
Alas, I didn't especially want to return to work. Having had more than two weeks away, I was beginning to enjoy a different sort of routine. Ah well.

Shiny Shiny

See, I did say that I'm too easily distracted. I got a couple of entries in September and failed to get them subbed until January. I have given myself a good solid wrist-slapping and swear never to let this happen again.
When I set my mind to it subbing takes moments. I find it a pleasure to read other people's entries, dig around and beneath them, tweak and twist, then find a bunch of tangential links from around the rest of h2g2. Yes, sometimes I still get the grammar rules wrong or use the wrong sort of bullet point. However, I find subbing as a whole a joy.
Now, back to my to-do list. Subbing isn't the only thing I've left hanging for far too long...

Write an Entry
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
