Glad to hear you stopped them in time, Bob. I reckon the police should be dealing with things like this.

When we read these stories, we always think 'Oh, I'd have spotted that scam a mile off', but you have to remember that these guys are seasoned confidence tricksters - they sound convincing. They tell you what you want to hear (ie the refund). Your judgment can go out of the window.

We have to really drum it into ourselves that PIN numbers and Bank account numbers are sacrosanct. No unsolicited caller has any right to know your bank number and nobody - even the bank - would ever need your PIN number.

Oh my, Bob, that was a lucky escape.

I watched something similar on TV only the other night. People get a cold call, confirm their birth date and bank account date, then the callers get money off those accounts although the account holder never gave a written permission.

Yea! that is the same con they try on the Internet, by sending you Emails asking for your on line banking details?
Their Emails look authentic, but if you click on "sender ID" you will see its not right.?

Our bank has a page that comes up as soon as you log in, warning of such scam, yet believe it or not some folk still fall for it!smiley - erm

Never give out any of your details on the phone or over the phone, until you have checked (by calling back, or checking sender ID) are authentic smiley - ok

Very crafty some people!!!

Last year, a States based company hijacked my credit card details when i had bought something on line. Weels later, small sums started going walkabout from my account.

Looked on line to see who it was, and was confronted by a warning not to say they were screwing me!!!!

Needless to say, went to bank. THEY HAD HEARED OF THE COMPANY!!!

Cards cancelled, cash refunded..

Bank said many people had been caught out, and UK and US police were investigating!!

BEWARE!!

It amazes me that people still fall for the Nigerian Dictator that has 100 million that he want's to launder in your account, and will give you 10% as a reward , if you give him you account details. 10% of nothing is nothing
