I personally still think that Playstations are best, I've not had chance to see the PS2 but it looks quite good and the games aren't that expensive, I think the X-Box is supposed to be the best console but the games and stuff cost loads after you've got one.
Blart, you started off wanting to talk about films in here, I think you said you liked the comedic effect in them, which is your favorite film? Do you prefer the generic comedies and teen funnies like Scary movie or do you prefer more subtle humour in films?

Hey FB!
Hey Tink
I don't like the X-Box: it's as ugly as anything! I quite like the look of GameCubes: they're small and cheap [though the games are quite expensive], plus they have a load of original games! I play on PC games the most though!
Do people like Austin Powers and American Pie: I think they are funny if unsubtle, but a lot of poeople I know hate them! Anyone seen Drop Dead Gorgeous: thats funny!
PLus Tink: if you want something funny [at my expense I might add!] ask the ol' Pres for the link!

my son's got a PS2..one of the good things about it..is it can play dvds too.. & apparently the graphics are real good..so he says..& he can use the same games as he had for his PS1..what's 'cheesing' him off though..it that after he'd saved to buy one..they went down in price..aint that always the way....

That is an advantage...but I just got a dvd player for my birthday: so it kinda cancels out! Having said this, it might be useful for when I go to uni!
I'll have to have a think: It'll take some savin'!

It's never worth buying a console within the first six months of it being released, unless you've got lots of money and are willing to spend extra just to have it before anyone else.
I was first introduced to the original Playstation last year, and so that still amuses me. I'll put off being entranced by the PS2 or XBox or GameCube until next year. It helps defend my bank balance

Unlike me who spends you're bank balance
Actually I think I meant the games cube as opposed to the x-box...oops! Personally I still prefer Mario on my old SNES but there you go
As for American Pie I thought it was good but it's too generic for me I think, the humours really obvious and unless I'm really in the mood for teen trash then I prefer more subtle stuff... like errrrmm "the sweetest thing"

I think buying good graphics and sound card for pc is better than any gamebox.

Yeah but PC's tend to get full up with stuff and they crash and go bleah and stuff, consoles are much more fun and way better for playing with friends, also the games tend to be aimed at children so they're much more fun

I've spent a fortune on buying bits for my PC to replace bits that don't work properly. Never buy a mail order / internet order PC from a company that isn't an instantly recognisable brand...
It's very nice having a console that turns on and loads the game instantly. I'm sure that someone, maybe MS, could come up with a PC/console hybrid that loads up a game instantaneously if you put a game CD in before turning it on, otherwise loads up Windoze.
I have a Voodoo3 card in mine which was great a couple of years ago but seems a bit outdated now. I tried the Unreal Tournament 2003 demo last night and it struggled at the lowest possible settings. Depressing. Need... new.... computer....

Hmm, there's less difference between PCs and games consoles than you might think... Sony have brought out a Linux developers kit, complete with Mouse and Keyboard for the PS2 - the next stop is internet access via your games console and then who'll need a PC?
Abi's Basement
Peregrin Posted Sep 24, 2002
Who'll need a PC? Well, it will be a PC But less powerful and non-expandable.
But standard PCs are a good thing - the thing I liked about early computers like the BBC was that all games worked with your computer, you didn't have to constantly upgrade to be up to date. Then these evolved into consoles and PCs, and that's why there'll always (or for a good while yet) be these two distinct types of computer. Some people like to know what they have bought will work, others like to know they can customise and upgrade what they've bought to their heart's desire

I like PCs..but will wait on the console thing: even though there are still loads of good games out on all the consoles even now...
Having said that: I've discovered a gem of good pc games: the budget range at the moment is fantastic! Deus Ex, No one Lives Forever etc etc are all supposed to be great games: all for a tenner! I got two games the other day: Oni and Tropico for a tenner each!
On the movies front, you do have to be in a certain frame of mind for those kind of films, and have only watched a couple of the earlier ones, like the pie movies rather than watching all the similar ones like 'dude wheres my car' and 'road trip' etc.
I do like the black comedy ones though, like I watched 'the parole officer' which I thought I'd hate, and I found it quite funny. Drop Dead Gorgeous is funny as well: cant think of anymore offhand...
On the serious film side, I really enjoyed LOTR, Girl, Interuppted, and am half way through AI which seems really good.

LOTR? Sorry I'm being dumb? But Girl Interrupted was fantastic! There was another great one I watched recently about Cheerleading but I can't remember what it was called but that was great even though we picked it out because we thought it'd be really poor... havign said that the worst film I EVER saw was something along the lines of "Scream if you still know what I did last summer", it was completely unwatchable 2hich for me to say is something!

LOTR = Lots Of Time Ruined. Or possibly Lord Of The Rings. That's three hours of my life I'll never get back. Still, it was nice to see David Essex getting work again.
