in my part of the countryknocking up! means wake me at a certain timeI know from when I was in Vegas, what your "knocking up" means

Strange how we learn language and customs..the downright nasty words and phrases I learned in Spanish when I was on the school playground

many years ago, I went to the next town near me, to a friends local pub/bar and while talking with him, his friends and his sister, I sort of showed offand spoke a few phrases of Germanthat I'd learnt

His sister started to speak fluent German(oh shit!)she only taught it at a school - guess who

I remember a pair of blokes who were discussing the charms of a very pretty woman of color in Spanish..they assumed that she was American and wouldn't have any idea about what they were saying

Turns out she was from the Dominican Republic..they were flabbergasted..they had been real descriptive!!!

we've all dropped them matelanguage is a killer

I guess so..
