This past week Los Angeles temperatures were as cold as England on some mornings.

UK temperatures, you wont like that It was the cold that made Charles Dickens so cheerful

We celebrated my father's birthday last Sunday.

I will need to pay a lot of attention to my investments, since they may have to finance years of care for me. There are fewer family members in every succeeding generation, so I don't want to put a strain on them.

Fortunately, the trailer park where I live is a very nice place for people to grow old in. We've had plenty of nonagenarians, and are likely to have more. The City of Boston provides good services for the elderly, including transportation. I only have three steps to negotiate, and everything is on one level inside my house. I didn't plan for having things to hold onto in the halls, but they're there anyway.

Good for you! I have a detached town house with a flat garden however its a 2 floor house with a cellar/garage that might cause a problem later, hopefully a stairlift might help, but thats in the distant future .

I don't have to worry about flood damage to the things in my cellar. I don't *have* a cellar.

Only in very heavy rain if the gutters are not cleaned out at the end of autumn each year

It looks like Northern California's rainy season isn't over yet. There is an atmospheric river bearing down on them.

We have weather problems on the right coast as well. Winds gusting to 60 miles an hour this afternoon. I lost my power for two and half hours.

I would rather have your rain than my wind.
