Ah, giving it straight...
Sorry, I drifted off.
We'd best leave this thread for story posting. See you on the other thread if you're still awake

Dear Fats...yah have been in the muck heap again...
What's that breaking news? Enig to give low scores........surely not, how out of character

Scores are pretty relative. It's not like I give everyone 5s, is it? However, I won't give a good story a 9 or 10 because I think that is over the top. Who can claim to be that close to perfection?

So what's the point of having a scoreboard up to 10 if you don't give anybody 10? I have, a couple of times, because of originality and how much I enjoyed reading it. So I'm over generous maybe, but I like giving high scores to encourage people to keep writing. I only ever gave a 5 once I think.

Because the score is out of 10(?). Look, on a scale of 1 to 10, 1 is God awful, 5 is average and 10 is perfect, yes? Perfect 10 etc. Well, even my favourite movies wouldn't get a 10 out of 10 because perfection is impossible. Thus, if I saw a truly great story I'd give it a 9, sure. Maybe even a 9.5, but 10? Why must I give stories a 10 to justify the scoring system? Whatever system you use, the top mark will represent perfection.
Not quite sure why we're debating such a relative matter. It's not like I give everyone bad scores (bad in my estimation being below average, thus below 5) so what's the problem?

If you like to be generous to encourage people, fine. That's what works for you, but it's not for me. I prefer to mark honestly and as objectively as natural subjection will allow. I'd rather point out errors and help people to improve, because that's the point of this forum as I see it.

Here's mine. I had a six hour train journey yesterday and thought I would write a novel at least - but no, there's just this.
