I got an email from one of my bestest girlfriends today. She's on email, but not particularly web savvy. In the email she asked....
By the way - what does BTW stand for?
Bless!

The new DNA Community, Get Writing is going pretty well so far! Woo Hoo!
(Launch announcement here: F94024?thread=316403)
It's great to see a few familiar faces over there and everyone is welcome to contribute to the new site *of course*, but... the team would really appreciate it if people didn't wander over there, welcome recently signed-up Get Writing members... and immediately try and recruit them to write for another DNA site.
The Get Writing audience comprises of many newcomers, who have registered because they've been drawn here by the Get Writing BBCi and TV promotions and it's rather misleading if the first person they meet online within the Get Writing site talks of SOP, The Post, BoTF, the AWW or WW2. It's confusing for them, and a bit harsh on the team who have spent so much time developing the new site and promoting it. Contributors will undoubtedly flow between the communities as time goes on, and that's a good thing , but it'd be good if we could all stand back a bit and let them find their feet within their own community *first*!
Perhaps we can introduce this into DNA community netiquette?

Oyster Travel Cards
Posted Aug 19, 2003
I've just got one of these funky new Travelcards for London.
It's a swipecard that works on the large yellow panels on tube ticket barriers and on the buses. You apply for a free card, like a creditcard, and then charge it up with credit on the web, and use it like a normal travelcard, the only big difference is that you don't have to queue to buy one, and they email you when its about to expire, so that you have plenty of time to recharge it over the web.
I think it's a neat idea - I hate wasting time queuing for tickets all the time. You can find out more about them at
http://www.oystercard.com/
oh and the best journey planner for London is
http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/
because it includes all forms of transport in London, including, trains, tubes, boats, and trams. Excellent!

Mark walked from Land's End to John o'Groats!
Posted Aug 3, 2003
Mark Moxon, our Ex-Editor, has just completed his walk from Land's End in Cornwall, to John o'Groats at the tip of Scotland. He rang me about an hour ago to say he'd arrived.
He's had lots of blisters and really sore feet, been rained on and chased by bulls and dogs. But I think he enjoyed it really!
He won't be back in London for a few days yet, but he'll probably pop online to say hi when he gets back.
Well done that man! It's a very, very long way to walk!
