Anyone for darts?
Posted Jan 21, 2004
Having been inspired (or perhaps just hugely entertained!) by Andy Fordham's recent win at darts, I've just been looking at a few darts websites.
Anyone who has watched the darts on TV will know that the audience isn't perhaps the most web savvy in the world. I was therefore delighted to find this website http://www.bdodarts.com/ which has to be the most amazingly un-navigable design I've come across in quite a few years. Try clicking on the links along the top, and then on the links in the left hand nav. The challenge is to get back to any page that you've seen before. It's incredible, a bit like trying to do a maze puzzle. And the colours!
This is definitely my website of the week.
Love it!

New Media Christmas party...
Posted Dec 18, 2003
Bleah! I feel awful. We had the new media Christmas party last night. It was good, its amazing how many people actually work here, there were loads of people there, many of whom I've never seen in my life before.
I want to go home to bed right now though. I feel really terrible, everyone else is looking a bit green as well though, which makes me feel slightly better.

How many...

Q: How many forum members does it take to change a light bulb?
Answers:
One to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
27 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
8 to request a light bulb smiley
41 to correct spelling/grammar flames
six to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ...
... and another six to condemn those 6 as anal-retentive
two industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
27 to post URLs where one can see examples of different light bulbs
12 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to suggest that posters request a light bulb FAQ from the Editors
44 to ask what is a "FAQ"
Two to post reasons why the light bulb burning out is the result of a government conspiracy
Four to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
43 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs"
One to complain that the Editors should have anticipated the problem and that *they* identified the issue months ago
and finally,
One lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now, and start it all over again...

I'm off to Belfast tomorrow morning bright and early for a meeting, back again at night time.
Hopefully I'll be able to grab a nice pint of whilst I'm there!
See you on Friday.....

Peta Away on Jury Service
Posted Oct 10, 2003
I'm going to be away for the next two weeks, I've been called up to do jury service in a court just off of Parliament Square in Westminster. I'm hoping to get a nice juicy case to work on, nothing too gruesome though!
There are a couple of key things that are likely to happen whilst I'm away; the implementation of Single Sign On will be the first. If you've been involved in the conversations over there you'll probably have seen Foe Romeo responding to questions already, she's leading the SSO team and she's there to give expert feedback. BbciSsoCsd U250610 is also on the SSO team, he's also a new hub italic, so post to the SSO page if you need help or info and they'll be there.
You might also see other new faces - my DNA colleague Dan U212011 has agreed to help look out too (although he is very busy at the moment so don'the probably won't be able to hang out and chat too much!). Mina has also been 'bold italic-ed' on the Hub too, she'll be there to give general feedback and support.
Okay, so that all should be okay. Everything covered? Tick? Hopefully! I'll drop in from time to time when I get the chance to see if all is going well.
Now I'm off to do my 'Twelve Angry Men' bit. Anyone see that film? Brilliant! I bet it's nothing like that at all!
