Errrr hello? any Christians about?
rooftiler - back again, for another bit at least Started conversation Mar 31, 2004
Hi everyone,
Just wondered if this group was hibernating or is in mothballs?* I realise that Justin (before he vanished) may have generated more heat than light over on Ask h2g2 (amongst other places) but there should still be a little room for Christians in a site that otherwise seems to be populated by atheists, humanists, rationalists...
Anyway, I'll make sure I'm subscribed and that you are added as a 'friend' (I feel that adding groups to your friends list is probably safer than individuals...)
God bless, hope to hear from someone soon

Yes, there is room for Christians on hootoo, but there hasn't been much action on this page.
If you go back through the convos on here, you'll see that some of them seem to be for the purpose of identifying one another, and at least one was a prayer request.
I suppose there could be some like minded discussion of some sort on here, if you want.
I have lots of researchers on my friends list who proudly proclaim themselves to be unbelievers of one sort or another. I'm not too concerned with being "safe" on here. I am well aware that most of the people on here are living apart from the Lord, and that there is a tremendous influence from the enemy on here.
The way I look at it, if you only count Christians among your friends, who exactly will you tell tell the Good News to? I have no qualms about telling my atheist and agnostic friends that I'll pray for them when they have a problem either, despite the fact that I know most of them find prayer to be a ridiculous notion. Maybe someday they'll start to question their lack of faith... and they'll need a believer to talk to about it. It might be easier for them to approach someone they consider to be a friend than just going to the Christians page and asking in general.
I usually only enter into discussions on moral "hot topics" if I truly feel led to do so, and have gotten to the point where I generally only will make one post on such a topic - because I've learned from experience on here what the reaction is going to be.
Although I endeavor to keep my posts on the sillier threads to a high moral standard, I'm sure I fail miserably from time to time. Such is the influence of the world.

Thanks for your response.
It's a shame there hasn't been much action, as this subsection (if that's the right word) of the site seems to have been well thought-out and shows much potential to gather together Entries that may be useful and a blessing to people.
I suspect you misunderstood me slightly. I'm not worried about being 'safe' as in retreating into a Christian-only ghetto and closing the door behind me, I've just been reflecting recently on the etiquette and possible issues with the 'Friends' list in terms of:
If you add someone and they don't think of you as a friend, will they be annoyed?
If you add several people but omit someone who considers *you* a friend, will they be upset?
Again, I realise you can't go through life simply trying to avoid causing annoyance or upset (it doesn't work at all!) but it seems silly (IMHO) to not consider the above issues before starting to add people to the list. That's why I reckon it's probably 'safe' to add 'H2G2 Christians' as a friend but not any individuals. If you add a group such as this, it's more obvious that you're simply utilising the Friends list as a handy function to take you to a particular USpace and not making a social judgement or presumption about a relationship that someone else might only categorise as 'acquaintance', 'person I've noticed around several conversations' or 'stalker'!
I agree with your reasoning about 'who will you tell'...
And I'm sure I don't always hit a moral high standard. But silliness is fun!
Anyway, thanks and see you around the place.

Oops, sorry for the misunderstanding!
Anyhow, I generally add people to my friends list as I get to know them. I've never had anyone complain to me about being added without their permission. The main advantage that I can see to having people on your friends list is that when they write a journal entry, it will automatically pop up on your convo list so that you can keep up with what's going on in their lives, although you can certainly subscribe to their journal without putting them on your friends list. I guess you just have to decide which people are showing signs of being paranoid about being followed, and not add them to your list. In my experience, most people on here aren't like that though. And if I neglect to add someone from a specific group, I can always apologise and do that later.
Speaking of which, I think I'll add you to my friends list... Wonder if you'll be upset?

Who started Christianity?
I feel certain you already know the answer to *that* one!
Oooooooh, you mean the Christians page... Hmm... Well...
Normally, I'd say just go back to the main page and see who wrote the guide entry, but he/she is calling him/herself h2g2 Chrisians.
*shrug*

so, whats to do then?
I've thought h2g2 ought to have some kind of Christians society since I joined. Do we (try) to use this page, even though it's dead, or do we start a new one, or do we forget it?

Just found this page... I am Anglo-Catholic, evangelical, non-fundamentalist. (Ain't that a mouthful!)

Hi there! Welcome to one of the many mostly-empty/dead christian organizations on the internet!
This project needs somebody to run it.
For one thing, I'd like to see somebody put together a list of all the Christians on h2g2 who would like their names on it, sorted by denomination (anyone could ask for a new heading for how they describe themselves, including "Non-Denominational" and "Unspecified"). Perhaps if anybody's feeling very ambitious, a prayer request / prayer meeting thread.
If anybody wants to start a campeign to evangalise h2g2, that should be coordinated as a seperate organization, possibly called the "Evangelical Society of h2g2" as opposed to the "h2g2 Christians" for several obvious reasons. I see no reason why this place couldn't link to such a hypothetical project.
We really could provide a service to the community in other ways though. Imagine, somebody having trouble in their life could be directed here to explain their difficulties, and people could pray for them and provide counseling. We could answer questions from people who are just curious - and there are alot of them on h2g2. Through our fellowship we could also support each other in the faith.
Anyone else out there with a burning desire to support any of these ideas?

A woman called Not Panicking Yet and a man called Cowboy are organising a roster, which is 1 of your ideas, all of which sound pretty good to me... I am here too infrequently now, to organise anything - but you could contact them...
