I chatted to him quite a lot at one stage. His writing for the post was fascinating and he was a very educated man.
Condolences to his friends and family in both countries.

This is devastating news. I didn't know him really, but he was ubiquitous in lots of threads.

I'm so sorry you've had to carry such sad news to us, Bel.
I used to enjoy James's acrostics, his post articles, and his sense of humour. I wasn't so keen on some of the obscure words he clued for the anagram and cryptic crossword threads, though, and I told him so a couple of times (something I now regret) - nevertheless, he always took the criticism well.
I shall miss him.

I´m sorry for you Bel.
I´ve enjoyed very much his Tales, poems... and his style of writing in general.
A fascinating person. He´ll be missed.

Always upsetting, the death of a friend. Cherish the memories you shared, and do write up his eulogy when you are ready. My thoughts are with you and James' family and other friends.

I wish you the most comforting of thoughts Bel..
I am one who knew PBS only via Entries or articles for The Post.
It is indeed sad to lose someone in the vitality of youth.

Oh no!
I remember once when he was explaining to me utterly out of the blue how wind towers worked, and a week later, my prof gave me bonus points for knowing.
I'll miss him - and not just because he always knew the answer to architect-y questions.
So long P.B.S., I can't believe your song is gone so soon.
I barely learned the tune
So soon
So soon...

Only just caught up with this message. I knew PBS and I'm sure we must have talked in the past. Can't say I knew him well enough to miss him personally, but I am sorry for his death and for anyone whofeels pain and sadness at his loss. Life is such a bugger of a thing.

Thank you all for your thoughts and hugs.
I have contacted the person who posted on his facebook wall as well as the brother who posted there. I hope the Moroccan friend will be able to tell me what happened and what has become of Fatima. I think his family in England don't know a lot, either at this stage.
I hope I will be able to get in touch with Fatima or the girl they considered their daughter ( James and Fatima didn't have children but the took care of one of Fatima's nieces (or grand nieces)).
I will go through all the emails he sent me and see if I can spot one of the people he frequently mentioned on his friends list on fb.
I went to an open air concert tonight - it had been planned for a while and I didn't want to let my friends down. It was a wonderful concert, but the thought of James didn't leave me all evening. The concert ended with the song: It's all over now, baby blue.

Thanks Bel
Last night I thought about the time a few years ago when PBS came online soon after he had almost died following a nasty accident with a power tool. Even though he must have been in extreme stress, he was able to articulate the episode with great humour and objectivity, showering praise on his family who looked after him while he was acting like a gibbering wreck.
He may have later written that into his Benshasha series, but I'll hunt out for the original posts when I get a moment.
