Having Eszet Scnitten (thin chocolate plates: http://de.academic.ru/pictures/dewiki/69/Eszet-Schnitte.png ) on bread was bliss.

Chocolate is great even for breakfast, however I am not so wild about hazelnut spread - I prefer peanut butter. Probably because that is what we used to eat as kids. I am found of youghart with müsli as well.

When I was a child, I read all the Enid Blyton books. The children there always had bread with peanut butter, so I thought it had to be the non plus ultra.
I can't stand peanut butter. I dislike the smell already.

Ah the "Full English". There are regional variations, but must include egg and bacon, and a selection from the following: sausage, mushrooms, tomatoes (cooked), beans, fried bread, black pudding (more common oop North), sauteed potatoes, hash browns (more of a hotel thing, I think), chips (if you're in a traditional greasy spoon - now a dying breed).
The sausage is traditionally the cheapest, nastiest CMOT Dibbler-type, and under no circumstances should it be well cooked. I generally leave it on the side of the plate.
For some reason that I never understand, the breakfast is normally served with only one egg. I like two eggs for breakfast.
As far as I understand it, the Ulster Fry is the same, but with fried soda bread. The Irish Breakfast also includes white pudding, which is like black pudding but without the blood.
The meal should be washed down with copious mugfuls of strong tea. Under no circumstances should a teacup be used.

No teacup? I think cups are ridiculously small anyway, I prefer a mug.
lil, I don't think I'd have survived what they may have called an American lunch.

Any time I have potatoes with breakfast, I always have ketchup.
Most days breakfast is some of whatever I made for the previous night's dinner. But if I go out, I don't usually have the "traditional" eggs, bacon/sausage, toast/pancakes. The only thing of all those I eat, or even like, is the toast.
I never drink my coffee black, either.

That's because you haven't met my husband and my sons. They all like peanut butter.

Americans' ability to make coffee is much overrated. For decades, they produced a brown water which was left to stew on a hotplate in order to make it taste nastier. More recently, however, they've taken to making huge hot milkshakes and calling this coffee instead.
As any fule kno, coffee is served in an espresso cup. Some people add sugar to it, for reasons best known to themselves.
Americans find that this contains too much flavour (or "flavor"), and so dilute it with copious amounts of water. Italians call this drink an "Americano". Drinkers of "Americanos" do not realise that this is actually meant as an insult.

PC, there aren't often any leftovers from the last supper, but if there are, my eldest son will have those for breakfast.
RF, what i got today tasted like espresso, just that it wasn't in a tiny cup, but in a large cup. (Note: I don't like espresso).
