Son #1 only knows how to break them. Son #2 may have an idea how to fix it, but as they're not fixable according to the husband, I doubt he'll try.

They cost an arm and a leg. If I had that much money to spend, I'd go to the London meet.

New husbands can be costly, too.
My question is- are all of these things your husband says are beyond repair really irreparable, or is it just that they're beyond his ability to fix? Surely it's more sensible to take a bike (or car, for that matter) into a shop for repairs rather than buying a new one, or going without?
Not that I mean any criticism or anything, Bel. Though I do hate to think that you'll be stuck dragging really heavy things around by bus.
You'll have ginormous muscles soon.

I really don't know about the bikes.
And I guess I should be in good shape by December the way it's going to be.
I had planned to go swimming once or twice the week, but I think I can skip that. I won't have the time, either.

surely you have police auctions and/or second hand shops

Try googling for secondhand shops/secondhand bike shops in your area B'El.
For example:
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=second+hand+bike+shops+in+dusseldorf&fb=1&view=text&sa=X&oi=local_group&resnum=4&ct=more-results&cd=1
Substitute your town for Dusseldorf and away you go.

I vote for the bicycle. My younger brother is now using one I had when I lived in Granada, his car now is broken. I've convinced him to use the bike. I've told him how useful was for me. I had a small plastic box fastened in the back seat and in the handles ( is that the word?); very useful when I went to shop or to the University. I moved all around the city with my dear bike.
And this summer, in one of the places where we always spend a few days we have used the bike and the bus. Tbe council is doing some work in the street and it was difficult to get a parking place.
And... Bel, you will look like a charming lady riding your bike with your front basket full of flowers and the back one with your groceries
A nice picture, I have a beautiful pamela I can lend you.

Thanks, scorp. I'll look into that.
Oh Mar, what sort of hat it that? I can wear most hats without looking too daft, but it's not easy to find one I really like.
Nice to see you back, btw.

I don't know, I think I'd be worth a few camels of anyone's money. At least the man who was asking Mal about me today seemed to think so...
