We take exams every year from we turn sixteen till we finish "Videregående" at age nineteen.

Videregående would be something like to college in GB, I think. The school system is sort of different from the British one, so it's hard to explain.

Damn, we have to take exams from the time we're ten till we leave school...twice a year. That's not even counting the standardized tests.

We get internal exams every year I guess. Proper exams: well there's the 11+ to get into selective schools in some places, there's the GCSES at 16ish, AS levels at 17ish, A levels at 18ish, that's it.
But really they only matter as far as they get you into a decent university.
