Aaargh - Mudhook's perm! I never used to understand why people paid good money to have their hair look like that, especially when I did (and do) everything possible to stop it from looking like that. However, there was some comfort back then that other people had the same horrific *hair* as me.
Dogster, the first thing I said to myself when I received your second photo was - 'my, what lovely hair!' Why is it that men's hair (when they have any ) usually looks nicer long than women's hair?

Has everyone noticed that it is only the people with gorgeous hair fishing for hair compliments?
Speaking of compliments, thank you Heathen Sceptic and Potholer!

My reason for getting a perm was that 1) I wanted to hide the fact that someone had taken a big chunk out of one side of it, and 2) to change my appearance enough that the person who took the chunk of hair out of the side wouldn't recognise me.
It worked. You couldn't see the bald area for the months it took to regrow, and I once got on the subway and, to my horror found myself nearly face-to-face with this person. You never saw someone get off a train quicker than I got off, and, although this person did glance at me, didn't recognise me.
Unfortunately, I inherited my mother's fine hair. It is very thick, but fine, so just truns to fuzz when permed. Also, the person who did the perm, said "No, it won't matter than you have been bleaching it for the last two years..." It did matter, apparently.
Mind you, it wasn't nearly as bad as my sister's hair. She had asked for a "body perm" and it ended up looking like a big black pyramidical haystack. She looked for all, the world like Rosanne Rosannadanna from Saturday Night Live....

Oh dear, Mudhooks. I suppose that having 'fried hair' is one sort of disguise though it was unfortunate you needed to do that. Mind you, I think all perms are unfortunate things, but there you go.
My *hair* is also baby-fine, hence the just-stuck-my-finger-in-a-light-socket look when I let it dry, um, naturally.
I inherited my father's *hair*. My sister got my mother's thick straight Indian hair and *then* would get it permed!!! Actually I didn't mind that as it seemed to even things out a bit.

'Hair' conversations - now that's dangerous territory for a bloke, so I think I should withdraw and watch from afar...

there was a bit in the paper this morning claiming that increased rates of twins being born was related to high pollution levels. Apparently

Does that meant that because I havent fished for compliments that I dont have gorgeous hair?
I think the secret to men having nicer hair than women is that we mess about with it less.
Let it be....

Ooh, I know Chinese twins. Well actually I only know one of them, and she's only half-Chinese, but still...score .
Anyway, clearly I have the nicest hair here: just look at that soft golden silkyness .

Okay, alright. So you've all got hair. Okay, fine, mumble...
I don't think ~jwf~ and me have even been on the same continent Gosho, much less in the same room.
Off to peruse the new arrivals...

Just shave it all off - you'll feel so much better for it

Thanks azahar for adding Bassman
I needed someone to over
I think I can clear up the confusion from 7-pages-of-backlogback, when Sho visited, you see, I read about your journal from the drool thread on Sho's PS.
It's so famous they gave us our own smiley didn't they Caerwynn?
It was Caerwynn who provided the link, I'm sure.
I correctly mentioned Sho's page, but she knew nothing of it {from her own thread} until she read *my* journal about it.
Got it now?
And *still* no-one's commented how good my hair looks, or how good-looking a grandmother I am.

I did indeed provide the link, GB.
And yes, you are a very good looking grandmother
The thread is so famous, we even influence sites outside hootoo and there is a sneaking suspicion that some of our suggestions are getting taken up by scriptwriters

There was a study done in Africa (can't remember which country... Nigeria?), where the incidence of fraternal twins was vary high. They attributed the high numbers to the fact that the diet was very high in yams which contain a natural Estrogen.
This was further supported by the fact that, when the rural people moved into the cities, their diet changed to a more westen style, and the use of yams diminished as did the incidence of twins.
I just confirmed it was the Yoruba of Nigeria that was the subject of the study.
According to one set of figures I checked, the Yoruba have the highest incidence of twins in the world. Another states it is the Amish. Perhaps one is for fraternal and the other for identical twins. The highest number of twins in one century was in Cork, Ireland.

Time to speak up then! I have absolutely terrible hair and anyone who wishes to compliment me on that fact may do so
GreyDesk, you have a lot more hair than you did in the last picture I saw, I almost didn't recognise you (actually, wouldn't have at all if it didn't say 'GreyDesk' directly under the pic )
Off to see Bassman's pic, I've always wondered what he looked like
