This year I will be participating in the “Leukaemia Foundation's World's Greatest Shave to Care and Cure.”
I’ve never been the kind of person to make New Year’s Resolutions, mainly because I know I’m not really the kind of person to keep them. This year, however, I decided that I needed to set myself some goals and challenges. Most of them were practical ones, like getting my license, not smoking so much and being more organised. Then I decided to add in a few loftier, more general goals, like being a better person, more giving, and more daring.
The first set of resolutions are easy to measure. There are certain things that need to be achieved and comparisons can be made. The latter set are a bit more difficult, due to their general nature. To be honest I didn’t know what I could do to meet those goals when I set them, only that they were things I needed to do.
Then I saw the ad on the television for the “World’s Greatest Shave” and it seemed just right. Something that would help me step out of my comfort zone as well as getting one step closer to “being a better person”.
As a result, sometime between March 10 and 12, the hair I have been growing for three and a half years will be completely shorn in the name of charity. Which means that I have about a month and a half to raise as much money as possible. Not only because it’s an excellent cause, we all know people who have had to deal with Leukaemia, or Cancer in general, but also because I’d hate to part with my hair without knowing that it was worthwhile.
If anyone’s interested, details are available on http://www.worldsgreatestshave.com/wgs2005/ and if anyone would like to sponsor me for the shave, please feel free to email me and we can organise donations and receipts. As an extra special favour, if everyone could try to be supportive I’d really appreciate it. I honestly thought I’d never cut my hair again, and now I find myself taking it all off, which does terrify me a little. But it’s for a good cause, and one that we could all give a little for. I know I will be.

Rather a gutsy thing to do, in my opinion.
Afterwards, do you think you'll experiment with wigs, or scarves, or hats - or will you do the whole Sinead O'Connor look?

Well luckily it will be beanie wearing weather, so I imagine I'll have to go beanie and hat shopping before the big shave.
I'm more than a little terrified to be honest...my hair is my only real extravagance, and my boy and my best mate both responded initially with "NOOOOOOOOOO!!!"
And something inside my head is still echoing their thoughts

Hey Chris
I appreciate the call for solidarity, but you know you wouldn't have offered if you had anything to lose
Seriously though there is an online donation option, I can email you the details, otherwise we can sort something out some other way, thanks kid
Dazz, the main thing stopping me from pulling out is that it is such a good cause, and I've told everyone now...i'd rather be bold than a whimp

- it's taken me about a year now to have my hair grow, and it's still not even shoulder length - can't you raise money without having to cut your hair ?

You can colour it instead, but I'm the type of person who would colour my hair on a whim...I figured I would have to lead by example...even though it will be hard

Morning Dazz
Yay it's Friday !
Howdy B'Elana !!
The last time I cut my hair was about 3 and a half years ago...then it was just at my ears and about the shortest it's ever been...now it's halfway down my back...
