Hello everyone.
I wonder if you could help me? My radio show begins on Wednesday, as no doubt I've already mentioned.
I've made some PDF posters to be put up in toilet cubicles and near shops/ATM machines etc - would you mind putting a few up in your places of work, education, residence, leisure etc? It would be most kind, and hopefully quite entertaining.
You can get them from http://consumedmag.org/dave/stereo

Greta, could you explain to me what "emo" is? Never really bothering with media descriptions of music, this has me confused........ is it cry-baby toss like Radiahead are now producing?

As far as I can gather (I'm not very keen on genre labels either), emo is a filiation of melodic punk. The lyrics of the songs describe emotional experiences and are very introspective. For mainstream reference, see Bowling For Soup, New Found Glory, Jimmy Eat World and Something Corporate.
Or at least I think so.

Thanks......
I'm now left with the disturbing but hilarious image of going to an emo gig and seeing crowds of gangly, spotty faced, floppy fringed youths, all dressed in black, holding hands and crying!!!
Maybe The Smiths should reform

Maybe they should, but we've got Radiohead, now haven't we? Morrissey is too old to whinge about the troubles of youth, really.

Come to think of it, so is Thom Yorke.
At en emo gig you're more likely to see a lot of spotty kids slam-dancing furiously, though.

Ah, the mosh pit! Waxing nostalgic is making me feel old. I generally avoid the mosh pit as well these days, mainly because I'm bellied up to the bar...

I've never been much of a moshpit girl, mostly cos the physical pain keeps me from enjoying the music... but I understand that guys enjoy it It must be, at some primitive level, sort of a Fight Club for people who don't actually want to beat each other up...

I know saying this probably makes me seem a bit wet (to hardcore fans, anyway) but I don't like violent 'dancing' at shows. I don't like violence in general. At least the mosh-pit is mutual, but still I'd rather people listened to the music and didn't hurt each other. It also makes wimps like me feel uncomfortable getting too close to the front, which is a shame.
At least Fugazi don't allow violence at their shows.

The mosh pit of my youth may appear a little dodgy when you become an old git like me... but not half as scarey as standing at the front at a Killing Joke gig and realising that you are directly in the line of fire (literally) of the fire-eater that appears to be dribbling petrol over your head

I've never risked the mosh pit, mostly because one of my friends ended up in hospital after being in one

Moshing doesn't seem very popular here on the Punk Society
I know a girl who used to be a fire-eater for a band we're both friends with. I saw her on telly once, wearing a skimpy outfit and spitting fire on the audience at a festival...

As far as I'm concerned, I'd still prefer a good old-fashioned pogo - the kind of pogo you get run over, don't hurt yourself and all the people around drag you up again - not even stopping to dance - so you can go on as well. I wear glasses, and I felt much safer than in hardcore pogo or in the mosh pit...
