Hi Polly and Folderol, what a lovely day,I went to work this morning and I'am not going to work again now until Tuesday at 6pm.

I have been making a slim door this afternoon with some 18*70 planed timber, because the wood's so thin I've had to glue and dowel the joints, when the thing has set I shall play with it a bit more.

When I have finished Im hoping it will be a full mesh fly door to go outside my stable door from my small kitchen into the back garden,I used to have one of those mesh curtains over the door but it perished after only one season, and we both leave the top half of the door open whenever possible.(weather permitting)

Anyway,how are you all???smiley - winkeyesmiley - ermsmiley - cool

Good afternoon Rick. And Folly (although you are away, Folly, enjoying yourself).

I was gardening at day-break this morning! I did the grass borders by the light outside my kitchen!! Eek!

Rick, I too have a stable-door in my kitchen. But I rarely bother to open the top half. When I moved here, I imagined leaning over the bottom half, listening to the birds with a whisky in hand...! But I rarely do that!

I had a lovely morning at church. And shall be there later.

Yesterday, I walked along the coatline again. It was superb. I had lunch in a rather nice pub, and then supper at a friend's home. So I didn't have to do any cooking at all. Great!

It is a very warm, and 'close', day. I was able to wear my lovely new linen jacket to church. smiley - blush Now I need some sandals! The Timberland sandals that I have had for several years are beginning to wear out. It's such a shame because they are the best footwear that I have ever worn. But they obviously can't be soled. smiley - sadface

I hope you are both enjoying gorgeous weather today. I have just heard the forecast on Gardener's Question Time. We are about to have some very warm days. Dare I get my shorts out?? smiley - winkeye

I've obviously given the impression I'm away this weekend - but I'm not. Jan's tied up with reports so we're having an at home weekend except tomorrow when we meet up with Becs and Charlie for lunch and a walk along the Thames in Oxfordshire - did I not say all this?

Anyway, glad you're enjoying the weather, Polly although it plainly isn't the same weather we have here. Yesterday was v good until about 4 ish, and today is warm but grey and spotting occasionally. Tomorrow's forecast showers for Oxfordshire - which we don't want, but, hey ho, we'll enjoy being with B and C for the day. Just hope there's no silly bank hol traffic on way back in the evening.

Have a good bank holiday, you two smiley - biggrinsmiley - hug

Oops~~sorry, Folly! I DID read your previous posts--but forgot the time-table of events! I pray you have a safe journey there and back tomorrow. smiley - hug

Rick, the sandals look very comfortable, and they are quite inexpensive. I just have a 'thing' about Timberland footwear. My winter boots have been wonderful to wear. They have been worth every penny. I shall take a look in Lymers and Winchester. smiley - hug

I've been outside watching the bats. They must be Horseshoe bats. Aren't they marvellous! They do fascinate me.

Goodnight both of you. Have a great day tomorrow.

Thanks Polly - by the way, Jan has a similar problem with her sandals which are 'Merrill's She swears they are the most comfortable footwear she's ever had and now can't find anywhere that stocks them.

Anyway - hope you find something comfy and not too pricey.

Have a good day Poll, and Rikki - by the way Rik, what is it you do? You work all sorts of hours that even God wouldn't send! Hope you're having all day tomorrow off - you need a good rest.

Night all! smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrinsmiley - hug

Hi Folderol,do?????? well as little as possible for as much as possible(I wishsmiley - sadface)well we(between two and up to ten of us)travel quite a bit when we are busy(about 50,000 miles a year)in our 7 and a half ton truck(at 56mph)which is crew cabbed 3+3 and install new cloured shopfronts,A P assemblies or curtain walling type structures.

Generally I suppose we deal with the larger type glass assemblies as usual, as quick as possible.

It would probably take reams of pages to explain our particular type of skillssmiley - cool

Thanks, Rik, I can picture you now and no wonder some days you're 'knackered' - sounds a bit too physical for me.

Just got back from a lovely day with daughter Becs and her fiance Charlie - lunch at the Trout Inn on the Thames near Witney and then a 2 1/2 hour walk up the Thames with a rest each way at Rushey Lock - weather stayed v kind to us with a glimpse of the sun occasionally. Food at the Trout Inn was good, too.

Now about to settle down to BBC 4 - Christina - life in a amedieval family. I've been interested in such things since reading my name sake's (Ken Follett) book Pillars of the Earth - all about a stone mason in 1100 and frozen to death - portayed medieval life for ordinary people - a v good book.

No, Ken isn't a relative although he lives only 3/4 hour away from me in Stevenage. I wouldn't mind his money, though

Have a good week, both of you smiley - biggrinsmiley - biggrinsmiley - hugsmiley - hug

Yup, looking good for a few days - glad you've got the day off, Rikki.

I think I'll get out now and wash my car! I think the rain we've had must have come from the Sahara as it's left sand all over the car - I don't know, you buy a new (well, new to me) car and within a week it's filthy! smiley - wah

When I finish the car, there's time for a walk around the village with my camera, then back to mow the lawn before I go back to work at 3. Then home at 5 and be sure to have the G & T's ready for Jan when she comes home.Cheers smiley - bubbly

Are you there, Polly? Or were you going away for a few days?

Oh what a beautiful mornin!

And all I have planned today is to sit in a seminar for 3 hours in a stuffy room then I am free for the rest of the day - methinks a bike ride is called for, followed by a long cool drink out in the garden. smiley - cheers

Good morning Rick and Folly.

I have got a free morning. How are you both today? Rick, are you working hard, and getting too warm? Take it easy tonight. Feet up-- drink in hand.

Folly, I sort of know Ken Follet. He went to the same church as me many years ago (before he quite obviously left Christianity behind him). I had dinner with him and his parents. I knew his first wife Mary, and her family. My parents liked Mary's family very much. I believe they were at Ken and Mary's wedding. smiley - whistle
I can't stand his genre of writing.

G&T's waiting for Jan? How kind of you. That sounds so delightful. Ah~~it brings back memories of my fiance. He was the kind of gentleman who would make sure I had a glass of wine when we got home, with the appropriate nibbles. Or a trifle in the middle of the night! Or home-made pizzas and quiches (he was a splendid cook) for our picnics. I've yet to meet anyone else who treated me so wonderfully. He took care of me fully. It was such a wonderful period in my life.

Anyway, back to the present. I'm so glad that you both had a happy weekend. I did too (most of the time!). I've got a constant headache which makes me feel rather dotty at times, and very sleepy. I haven't had a drop of alcohol to drink since just before the weekend in the hope that my head might start to feel better. It hasn't!

A very beautiful day here again. I'm off to the woods later (it was so hot there yesterday. No air in the deepest parts of the woods). And then I shall visit my disabled friend (from church).

Folly, at my home-group last night one of our Deacons said some said really lovely things about me. I know that I am extremely involved in my loving church, and that I adore every second of being there. It is my second home. Outside my family, I have never felt so utterly loved as I do in my home-group. But it is believed that the Lord led me to my church. And, although everything else here is horrid(the problems that I have), I have encountered love and compassion on a huge scale. 'In weakness am I strong'.
I'm (we all are!) praying that Sunday will remain warm and dry. We are having a church picnic after the morning service~~somewhere near Burley.

Nearly time for elevenses! Do you both realise that it will be the shortest day of the year in about 6 weeks?! And then the dark nights start to draw-in! smiley - winkeye

I pray that you both have a happy day~~~whatsoever you are doing. Rick, how are you feeling? Lots better I do so hope.

Polly

Lucky you, Rikki - finished for the day - I suggest you get out in the garden and start sunning yourself. Unless, like me you don't really enjoy actual sunbathing. I prefer to sit under a tree and enjoy the birds and peace. smiley - cool
But then, I go brown whenever the sun thinks about coming out, I don't have to sunbathe (must be what we used to call a touch of the tarbrush in my ancestors - ooh! am I allowed to say that?)

As for Polly with the New Forest on your doorstep - how wonderful. Give my love to the ponies - even when they insist on standing still in the middle of the orad, cos that's where the shade is.smiley - wah (That seems to be the case especially around Brockenhust, along that road that leads to the ford)

Have a lovely day, my friends smiley - biggrin
