Folderol - who he?
Who am I? I'm a semi retired ex banker/school bursar/school premises manager who now drives minibuses part time. I spend too much time messing about on the web, in between driving and being a parish clerk in our village in North Beds. I also am a Methodist local (Lay) preacher, and treasurer of the church in the next village.
My teacher wife and I (married 37 years) have a small villa (thanks to the wills of my dad and mum in law) in the Costa Brava which we visit most school hols and let our three kids use whenever they want. In July and August we try to let it commercially and this normally covers the running costs.
I dabble in watercolour painting - not v good at landscapes but ok at still lifes. We do a lot of walking here and in Spain. Costa Brava - or at least the bit where we are, near Begur - is beautiful and full of country and coastal walks and wildlife. We also love camping, especially in west Dorset - my ancestral home. But I'm not telling you where as it's idyllic and quiet and we don't want everyone finding it.
Our three kids are all with long term partners. Personally I'd like them to get married, but that doesn't seem to be the thing nowadays - shame. Our son is a geologist in Devon; eldest daughter is an event manager in Somerset; and our baby (she's 27) works for a charity and is currently seconded to the government's climate change team investigating how to preserve tropical rain forests from logging companies.
Other interests? Music - Jazz - Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, Oscar Peterson, Zoot Sims - that sort of stuff. If you like that sort of jazz, try Guy Barker; a young British trumpeter who is just fantastic.
I volunteer at The Stables at Wavendon, Milton Keynes - it's the Dankworth/Laine music venue and is virtually run entirely by volunteers. Basically, whatever we volunteer on, we get to see free.
Reading - mainly thrillers, Ken Follett, that sort of thing, but my tewo favourite books od all time are - wait for it - Alice in Wonderland! and The Kite Runner. If you haven't read this amazing book about life in Afghanistan, then you are missing out on a very special experience.
Birdwatching - in Spain and locally in UK. Those feathery creatures really arfe amazing things.
When you have read this, don't leave it there, do comment on what I've said and let me know about you
