Hi Rick.

What a sweet verse. Thank you.

I wonder what time you will get home tonight. Or are you now fast alseep after such horrid hours? smiley - zzz

I did my posting, through letter-boxes, of Easter notices this afternoon (for all the church services here in the village and surrounding villages). I got soaked. And it was so cold too. My hands were frozen.

I'm walking in Winchester tomorrow, unless the weather is really bad. I expect that the water-meadows will be quite flooded.

Time for a glass of wine methinks. smiley - winkeye

I went to see the doc again today as they sent me a letter asking me to get in touch, they have had the results of my blood tests back(the super one that took three weeks)They say it tested positive for some kind super stomach bacteria,a certain type which attacks the stomach lining,so I've been proscribed the different types of medication, two types of anti biotics and a gastric type medication.
Then the doc hit me with a sledgehammer,NO BOOZE for a week,(you mean I have to look at this world without my rose coloured spec's)smiley - yikes

Evenin' Poll - and Rikki if you're awake and not working. It must be rotten working through the night.

Just got back from watercolour group - trying a landscape using only three colours - a yellow, a blue and a red - bl@@dy difficult to get sagey greens and dark shading in trees, but a v good exercise.

I did the Easter cards for our church yesterday lunch time in sunshine - only one street, though. Sorry you got wet - but it sounds as though you had the whole town to do - or was it just a street or two?

When I got home this evenign I was v thirsty for some reason so, instead of usual red wine, I had a spritzer - v refreshing. I haven't had one for years - a bit of a waste of a good Chardonay, but it was already opened and a few days old.

Spent two hours today with our minster doing a risk assessment tour of the church buildings - it's frightening how quivkly things like lighting and kitchen fitments deteriorate - we're gonna have to find several hundred pounds to get it all up to standard. Silly things like providing the playgroup who use the premises in the week, with a lockable cupboard for their cleaning stuff, and none of our lights have got covers/diffusers on so that will cost a few bob. smiley - sadface

Hi there, Rick. smiley - smiley

Well at last you know what is wrong with your tummy. No you mustn't have any booze! And don't forget to take all your medication! I'm good at doing just that!

Will you be visiting the 'stand alone lim' thread tonight? Fireworks have begun!!

Hi folderol.

As you will have read, there are fireworks at the solo lim thread!

I didn't have too many streets to do~~but one road was very long and winding! I got to see more of the village!

I always feel that a spritzer is a waste of a decent wine. But if your wine was growing old....I've taken to drinking lots of orange juice. I believe that our bodies tell us what we need. Poor Ricks is telling him he needs a bottle of beer(isn't it, Rick smiley - winkeye ).

How many have you got in your church, Folly? Ours is a small church~~about 120. But we really are a very close church-family...

We will be extending the main part of the church this year. We might even have to rebuild somewhere entirely new because the congregation has grown since I joined. Not because of me though! smiley - erm

We are in the middle of security checks...

Gosh, I'm suddenly very thirsty. Must get some orange juice.

Hi Rick. This is the first time I have switched the computer on today.

Take care tonight out at work. Not much fun surely?

No tablets until Monday?? Is that because you wish to drink during the weekend? smiley - winkeyesmiley - tongueout

Yes it did seem to be warmer today. I've got a cold. smiley - smileysmiley - wah And a temperature!

I need to do shopping tomorrow so might head off to the coast (shops and coastline). There is nothing worth buying here in the village. And it is so expensive that very few locals use it!

I hope it doesn't rain tonight for you. Keep dry.

Evenin'all! I trust you are well - Rikki, not too worn out form your night work and head cold. Large Whisky and hot lemon with a couple of 'parrots ate 'em all' - never fails, although best not to operate heavy machinery, as they say.

Polly, Yes, I did peruse the solo lim thread. Glad I'm not involved. I think I will do the 'chicken' thing and disappear from any thread he shows up on. I can do without the hassle.

Glad you didn't have too many streets to deliver. Have you ever tried collecting for Christian Aid? You leave envelopes and then collect them a few days later. I get so depressed with how mean people are - you ask for their envelope, or say your collecting money or donations for CA and they laugh and give you back the empty envelope! How cruel - just a 5p from them all would mount up.

I'm not a great one for spritzer but when you're thirsty and fancy a chilled drink, an unalcoholic one doesn't always do the trick

Our church is v small - membership is 40. Average attendance about 25. We've given up evenings - only getting 4 including the organist and preacher. Our minister was only saying to me yesterday that she is in despair that, with no young families comign in, we will jsut fade away. Any ideas?

Mrs Folderol has just finished her Ofsted week - all went well - so we had an Indian takeaway tonight in celebration (oh yes, we know how to whoop it up!) - one of those cold ones from Sainsbury's that you warm up yourself. Very good and v reasonable - plenty for two for about £12 and no cooking (other than microwaving) and little washing up. The Rioja flowed and all's well with the world. I've just nippeed up to the pc while Mrs F watches gardening progs that she recorded last week.

Good weekend coming up - meal at a friends tomorrow night and then up to my nephew in Leicester for Sunday lunch - so no cooking!

Hello Folly.

Sounds like your weekend will be a happy one. I'm always glad when Sunday comes around, so that I can spend the best part of the day at church!

My last church now has 600+ in it's congregation! It's a very lively church, with lots of bands and singing groups. Plus lots to do all week.
My new church is also very lively. 100+ is pretty good for a small village. The large C of E church beside me has only 40+ folk. Same with the Catholic church.

I guess that we are a very outward-reaching church, and very Evangelical. Even all the young parents who come along to our 2 toddler groups during the week(and very few of them come to our church) say that we are so different to other toddler groups. They can feel the real love and care that we give them.
We don't, though, get a full church of folk in the evenings. At my last church we always did. But here we get about 30, which I feel is a shame because the evening services here are really thought-provoking.
Maybe lively churches are far more popular than the rigid C of E's. Folk need nurturing and pastoral care instead of organised prayer etc. Love is what people need. Love is far more important than incense and candles etc.

Oops-so sorry to go on. smiley - blush

I have often thought that, if everyone gave just gave a few pence to charity-collections, it would soon mount up. I'm hoping to start a monthly collection of tinned food stuffs at church. If everyone gives just 1 tin a month, we would have such a wonderful amount to take to the homeless hostel that we support and help. When I went there at Christmas, I felt so very sad. Those that were there at the time were so very very excited at our packages. So sad, isn't it. My friend and I got out of a large new car, and we looked smart and happy. I felt very guilty...

I hope your weekend is lovely. I fancy a glass of wine, but I feel so unwell tonight!

xx

You're right about a few pence from everyone would really make a difference. In effect we DO give that, through the Min of Overseas Development and other government aid to worthy countries.

Charity giving of any kind often means that someone must lose out - you can't give to all causes. However, I heard on Thought for the day some years ago - I think it Bishop Harries - such a wise man - that, when passing a person begging in the street, he ALWAYS gave something. He had a belief taht I adopted then and still try to follow. He said:

I always give to beggars, even though the money often will be misspent or they aren't really in need, because:

"I would rather run the risk of being conned, than run the risk of ignoring the plight of someone in need"

Live by that and you will be happy - and maybe some others will be happy too.

Regarding your health - I do hoppe both you and Rikki are better soon - I haven't caught it yet! Have a look at what I suggested for Rik, Poll - in my last missive.

I'm off for an early night now.

Night all!smiley - smiley

Hi everybody,I've just got home and opened an ice cold can of beer,it wont do my cold any good but it does wonders for the moral.

Little Shannon Mathews safe and well,I must admit I thought she was a goner,Folderol if I may suggest there's plenty of room on the hip poet thread for someone as interesting as yourself,me?I think Im stagnating a little lately,as you all know Im the instant sort of poet?just dont get the Orwellian luxury of incessant line changes or the days to spend pondering obscure definitions or words, yet if I only write one decent poem from every hundered I have scribbled that makes it all seem worthwhile.

Night/morning all and remember:those that find love in the mirror are too busy to look elsewhere.smiley - erm

Good morning, Rick. Almost 6am

I haven't been to sleep at all all night. You will be fast asleep now, and I'm just drinking my umpteenth cup of tea.
How did the night-job go?

I haven't yet found love in a mirror! Can't bear to look at times! And right now~~~~well, what a mess!!!

Hey Rick~~your poems are great. You've penned some super ones.

Have a long lie-in this morning. Then hot drinks (not chilled ones!).

'Bye for now.

Hi Polly,my cold is still lingering and I just cant motivate my self into doing anything.

Sore throat? I always gargle with soluble Asprin(BP)the one with all the bits in the mixture,it works wonders if you got a sensitive tummy just gargle and spit it out, warm water works quicker.R.smiley - tongueout
