Stealth "Jack" Azathoth

What films have folk seen recently? Are planning to see? Are looking forward to or excited about? Favourite film of 2004?

Napoleon Dynamite looks to a damned funny film. Then again, I thought Churchill: The Hollywood Years sounded like a good laugh, and that was pretty dire apart from the rap scene. I've heard The Phantom of the Opera is something of a disappointment but I must see it and judge it for myself, it looks beautiful... Lemonity Snicket, I've not read the books but they've been recommended, I don't like Jim Carrey [does anyone?]... Meet the Fockers, the first one was full of laughs, don't know that a sequel could match it, but I'll happily give it a chance.

I've heard good things about The Aviator. The Flight of the Phoenix looks interesting- I wonder how different it'll be from the old version?

I'm a huge fan of Jim Carrey. I mean, okay, Ave Ventura was a really bad move, but one can't always expect a good script. I think Carrey is an extraordinarily talented and versatile actor.

We saw 'Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind' the other day, and it was a real cracker. Oddly, it made me think of you, Stealth. I remember wondering what you'd think of it. If (like me) you're into weird stuff like 'Memento' and 'Being John Malkovich', then it might be your kind of thing--despite Jim Carrey's starring role!smiley - tongueout

It's him. Not the performances nor most of the films he's in. There is just something about him.
The reason I've not seen Spotless Mind are emotional ones.
I like Being John Malkovich muchly...

Yeah, I think you're wise not to watch Spotless Mind for a good while.smiley - sadface

It's Meryl Streep who gets me.smiley - yuk She can act her heart out, but she still winds me up. She's just soooo... well, I don't know, but she's it, allright.

I've been trying to find a fellow appreciator of 'The City of Lost Children'. You seen it at all?

Yeah, same brilliant directors as Delicatessen. I know I've seen Brazil, but I don't remember a thing about it--I think I was a student at the time, and therefore off my face.

Last movie I saw (in the theatre) was Shaun of the Dead, which was absolutely hilarious, though a little gross towards the end.
The best movie I've seen all year is Hero, with Jet Li. I've seen it four times, and cried every time.
There have been some good movies this year, but not the ones everyone expected. I liked Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, but my brother hated it, so I don't think you should see it either Stealth, though maybe someday.
The movies I'm most looking forward to next year are: Constantine(February); Hitchhiker's (Of Course! -in May); Star Wars episode 3, Revenge of the Sith (also May); Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (July); Doom (August); A Scanner Darkly and Serenity (both in September- just in time for my birthday); Chronicles of Narnia and Underworld 2 (both in December); but the movie I'm most looking forward to seeing next year(after H2G2) is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (November).
Quite a list, almost makes life seem worth living, eh?

Constatine?!! Everyone I know is extremely peeved that Reeves was cast!

Hitchhikers... I'm looking forward to it... hoping that Arthur won't annoy me.

I hate Star Wars. And Harry Potter.

No-one saw fit to tell me Underworld 2 had be greenlighted... I'm muchly excited.
Look forward to Narnia given cinematic life..

It does... almost.smiley - winkeye

I happen to like KR- thought he was superb in Matrix, which is my all-time favorite movie. I've seen several trailers for Constantine, and it looks great. He and the director did an appearance at a comic book gathering, and showed the trailer, and everybody loved it.
Have a little faith.smiley - smiley

The best movie I saw this year was called Star Runner- and it was on video.

OK, yeah, it was a Chinese Kung-Fu film. And yeah, it was subtitled. But the camerawork was awesome- watching the training sequences was like watching a good documentary. And there was a really neat little subplot involving the protagonist's grandfather in WWII.

Ah, well we come at it from different perspectives then... I come from the perspective that Reeves has given a good performance in 3 films. Of which Matrix is not one. And the people I know come from the view that Bill & Ted's Excellent adventure was his one and only... And that someone playing an Englishman with the complexities of Constantine should be able to act and do it well.

The best film I saw at the cinny this year may well have been 'Layer Cake'.
Best films I saw on video... 'The Pledge', '21 Grams' and 'Requiem for a Dream'
Not sure when they were made.

He's not English in the movie- not even an attempt at an accent, which, although I like him, I have to say, "Thank God!"smiley - biggrin

I just saw "House of 1000 Corpses"

I loved it, it was exactly like they took a White Zombie or Rob Zombie album and translated it into a movie. Neon and horror and rock and roll and murder...what more could you want.

I must say that I've not read the Hellblazer comics... I know Constantine through The Sandman graphic novels... But that's an example of a lack of respect for material to the minds of many... I share the concern to an extent because I know if I be mightily offended if Morpheus was treated with the same disrespect.

I've not seen it still, I've heard similar things about it...

The film about the rality TV show where you have to kill off your vival contestants? I saw it at the cinny years ago... The critics hated it but I thought it was an above average film.
