But a benefit of not smoking must surely be that you can take long walks without losing breath as much, and that will help you with weight!

It seems you already lost some, so keep that up too!!! smiley - run

And giving up sugar is a brilliant idea - it really is addictive! I've cut down on sweets a bit and actually do feel better about it, less hunger swings at least! And after only a few days, the cravings go away. smiley - hug

I've lost a bit since my heaviest, yes. But, I have put a fair amount of what I lost over summer and autumn back on again. When I'm weighed later today, I'll be pleased just to have remained steady for a fortnight.

I'd done so much walking in my "Star Trek" ankle boots that I wore holes in the soles. So I bought a pair of these http://www.surplusandadventure.com/ishop/800/shopscr256.html at Colonel Mike's in the North Laine. They're kinda cute actually... should get some cute laces for 'em. Still breaking them in, I've a saw toe because it. smiley - wah

Wow, nasty drug!

As is sugar. A tough one to give up, that. It causes me all sorts of problems, but still I eat it. (MMmmm... Eostre's ova... smiley - drool)

Where was I? smiley - bigeyes

Oh, yes. When I'm being good about sugar, I find that bunging a spoonful or two of sugar into a caffeiny hot drink can satisfy chocolate cravings. It involves less sugar, anyway.

'Wow, nasty drug!'

Well it helps some people... Just not the best thing to prescribe someone who weighs fifteen stone and is convinced they're morbidly obese and has problem with comfort and binge eating.

'Eostre's ova'

*Gives himself a grammarslap!*

I want a caramel latte now...

But yes, I may be trying something along those lines... I have to be up in the m*rnings in future and may need the caffeine to keep what's left of my tiny mind.

Thanks for positive comment on the boots. I've a case of unrequited love this pair though... http://www.rivithead.com/product_info.php/products_id/488

I just got back from the high street, picked up my prescription for nicotine lozenges and an inhalator thing.

I'll be trying to combine them with reminding myself of the reason I don't want cigarettes, like they're expensive and I can't afford them, smoking increases the risk of Alzhiemer's and I don't even really enjoy smoking it's just having cigarette allieviates the anxiety caused by having the smoking habit, etc.

Sort of like The Tippler in The Little Prince that drinks to forget that he's ashamed of drinking?

Not really. Sorry, I was incoherent.

Having a cigarette is reputated to help calm you down.
This is true to the extent that there is a kinda placebo effect.
There's nothing in cigarette itself that reduces anxiety, unless you are already a smoker and your nicotine level are low the withdrawal can trigger a stress response that you interpret as anxiety and having a cigarette is actively alleviating the symptoms.

So far I've halved the number of actual cigarettes I smoke in a day.

But the test will be the upcoming Skeptics in the Pub on Tuesday and seeing Penn and Teller the following day.
