'Robert Rankin, I read Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse (bluddy hilarious), am I getting the right guy? I also loved Waiting for Godalming(sp?) and I'm planning on reading the sprouts of wrath. If I've got the wrong guy, please help.'
Yes, Robert Rankin is Robert Rankin.
You don't have to read his books in order but 'Sprouts of Wrath' is the fourth book in the 7 book Brentford Trilogy. Of the trilogies the Brentford trilogy is the one where order is least important.
A2120617 is the h2g2 fan club I tried to get going... unsuccessfully.
I liked Waiting For Godalming, it was the first one I read, someone had recommended Voodoo Handbag, knowing my twisted sense of humour and whilst i was waiting for the bookshop to get a copy in I read Godalming because the blurb made it sound so cool. It's one of Robert least favourites of his work, I think because the ending is so weak.
'Subtle explanation.
*bows head in admiration*
laugh You have a way with words!!!'
Thank you m'dear. *bows in return* Subtlty is my forteé.
'Don't know him either though. Hmm, must get a copy of one of his books. I have the impression I'm missing out on all the fun.'
I'm not familiar enough with your sense of humour to recomend a novel to start with. I tend to recommend one of the stand alone novels as a starting place, but take your pick from these http://www.sproutlore.com/books/rankinbooks.php They aren't summed up as well I'd like for a list on his fan club's website, but life's imperfect.

Yep, I ám missing out on all the fun. I don't think a look around in the second hand bookshops will make a change. There's only one solution and that is paying a visit to all the Brits I know in the city of U. next week and raid their bookcases.

I better get some glasses and a new e-mail address before I can even consider signing up. Ok, I'll do it now.

After some confusion was straightened out, the paperback is now in the snailmail to Krabatt... It is not as some suspected, an electronic book
I also took the liberty to list Kamanchi as the owner, and started a list of which people the book has visited, on one of the first pages...

Hahhaa ha.
No it's a proper book, with time worn pages of real paper and scuffed spine too.
Cool, it's an around the world book, from England to Sweden and now onto the rest of the world!

Yeah, a real bonding thing - shows we're not just friends in the electronic necro - whooops Internet world, but humans of flesh and blood. Supposedly.
I'm glad you like the idea!

I haven't gotten round to Jasper Fforde yet... Library copy is always out and I don't know what I might in the mood to read by the time I get if I try to reserve it...
Regarding Rankin I think it'll have to be either a Lazlo Woodbine novel or Nostradamus Ate My Hamster...

I can never find any Rankin novels... so I have to settle for my next favorite authors, Douglas Adams and Terry Pratchett.... reading Gaurds Gaurds right now actually....

Pratchett! Bah!
Maybe Michigan could be the next stop for Voodoo Handbag. I think it's in Belgium now...?

What is wrong with Terry Pratchett??? What I ask you! I think he's funny.... and after I finish Gaurds Gaurds I would love to read Voodoo Handbag.... but it's expensive to ship overseas isn't it?

As for Pratchett, it's a combination of my not liking what of his I have read, although it was a long time ago that I read his stuff if you don't include Good Omens, which I believe was good because of the Gaiman factor... Pratchett on a personal level being a bit of a cn*t to his fans, and to Robert, and my tending to avoid overhyped and overrated things...

Ahhh, well I don't know about any of that but I'll take your word for it. The amazon.com page doesn't like my browser....

Well there appear to be Rankin books available from there at relatively sensible prices on the basis that dollars are worth little more than 50p last time I looked.
