Thursday, I went down to Brighthelmstone to see Esoterica perform live at a little rock/metal/goth/punk club.
I got there just after 8pm.
I expected to have missed some of the performance.
I was wrong...
Not only had the gig been shifted to Thurday from Wednesday, but it had been put back til 11pm and, the doors to the club didn't open until 10pm.
So, I sat myself down to drink some in the bar nextdoor, they were playing the most awful music very loudly, it wasn't quite as bad as say Katie Melua or Charlotte Church, but it was as awful as the Sugar Babes.
I stayed there on the off chance that people I vaguely know turned up at the club early too.
They didn't.
Anyway, I was still feeling pretty awful.
I'd earlier seen my therapist for the second day in a row and my consultant. There's been concern over my physical and mental wellbeing.
I still haven't been back to college since last Tuesday. Physical pain and emotional daemons have made it seem like more than I can take.
But I had decided that a live performance was a risk worth taking, I really needed to get out of my flat, needed to feel like I was doing something about how I was feeling...
Of course there was chance that being out and about and not feeling confident could put in a more vulnerable state. As because of the move from Wednesday there wasn't going to be the lovely Tim and Loz to offer friendship if I needed it.
But fukit I thought, I'm gonna go out and see the best unsigned band in the region, Brigtons answer to A Perfect Circle and Tool.
So the doors finally open and in I go and so do a half dozen others... I buy an over-priced drink and then pop out again to buy more cigarettes 'cause there's still some wait to come...
It's after 11 and they take to the stage... the few of us there form a semi circle around the room below the stage...
Esoterica perform brilliantly... though the sound guy could have given more attention to the lead singers mike output...
They perform song after song with skill, talent and style... The crowd fairly to show the kind of appreciation that one should when seeing such star quality for not a penny on the door.
After the last song and the clearing of the stage is done, I say so to Charlie of the band. He's avery nice chap...

Sounds like you had a really entertaining night! I reckon going out and letting your hair down right now is way more important than dealing with academic obligations.

I said "fairly to" went I meant 'failed to'. The band were great, however the rest of the evening - i.e. before and after the band had performed - was terribly dull.
But the band were worth the time, money and effort of going there and *staying there.*

They've got a dark, well-rounded sound to them, with really meaty guitars. Sort of like a slower version of death metal, with a prettier voice.
I like them, but I'm afraid my fun-money is earmarked for the theatre. Sorry.

Glad I'm not the only one that likes them... I heard about them through a fellow sproutlorian who new I like APC and thought I like these guys too, after listening to their EP I was muchly impress that young local band had such a good sound. I think that since they're such nice guys, can write and perform they really deserve sucessful futures and adoring sycophants.

"I was muchly impress that young local band had such a good sound."
Yes, they have a mature sound to them, as though they've been performing for years. Have they been?
What's a Sproutlorian

I don't know exactly how long they've been together. But it would be counted in years. I first got their EP about a year ago.
A Sproutlorian is a memeber of Sproutlore.

Sproutlore is a society [club] for the dedicated lunatic [Rankin fan].
Robert Rankin is a well known author [writer of weird stuff]. He's written 27 books [sacred tomes] all of them quite amusing [bloody funny] and has no plans of stopping ['You'll have to take this pen and exercise book from my cold dead hands!']. Because Robert is such an egotistical bast [really great guy and someone I can call a friend, not to mention sublime lunatic] dozens [sometimes hundreds] of us fanboys [chap and cxhapettes clad in black] like to get together and do fanish things [go around Brighton's suburbs on a big red tour bus shouting chavs or having chicken fisting competitions or play WTC Jenga].

Robert Rankin, I read Hollow Chocolate Bunnies of the Apocalypse (bluddy hilarious), am I getting the right guy? I also loved Waiting for Godalming(sp?) and I'm planning on reading the sprouts of wrath. If I've got the wrong guy, please help.

Nope. By reading the booktitles my guess is you're right. Don't know him either though. Hmm, must get a copy of one of his books. I have the impression I'm missing out on all the fun.

The dear Kamanchi sent me The Dance of the voodoo handbag. We could make it a round robin thing! The first who sends me their address at maria dot bengzon at telia dot com gets it in the mail!!!
It weirded me out and made me laugh! This must be where the idea for the Matrix movies came from - not that I have seen them...
