So how do you cope with depression?
Vicki Virago - Proud Mother Started conversation Aug 20, 2004
Depression is such a volatile and unstable illness that you can be up one day and down the next...
…being there for someone is the most important thing of being a good friend/relative.
Perhaps a hug may help, or perhaps a full blown rant could do the trick. Whatever it is, use it and use it well, or else you will go down with the rest.

Mort's personal space has some good links about this. A big step is identifying cause(s) and getting folk to realise that you are depressed. Those that have good freinds and family are the luckiest.
Hey VV your postings are stopping my .

There is a lot you can do to try and help people with depression I do aggree VV....
Talking is one thing though that should never stop. Though I am sure a lot of people suffering with it do hate having people talking to them all the time it is better than being on your own with your own thoughts hounded you and making you feel so much worse....

I'm not overly sure a phone call would be good FS. She's extremely ....oh, whats the word.... "down" I suppose. Yesterday didn't help much, but there are things going on that you know nothing about....just be patient with her

FS...you have no idea how down she is. I'm stuck in work and can't get there (short staffed)...but believe you me....if I'd have been there when all that went off yesterday, there would have been bloody hell to pay, believe you me.
FS...none of this is your fault, it's a culmination of things building up here.
FS...really, you really do not know what is going on. Trying to keep your head above water whilst helping a loved one is so difficult....oh Sh!t

VV - relax, take a deep breath and calm down. You are right I do not know anything that is going on sorry....
I do not think any of this is my fault - I was helped and I will help in return - I am stuck in work too....
I can guess from what I know - but I will knock around in the dark seeing what I can do...

Don't know what's been happening VV, but your mum has done REALLY well lately. All the going out. And she shines when she talks about it. I've been really proud of her.
Most times talking is more a case of listening, just voicing concerns helps let off steam. It doesn't make problems disappear but it can put them into context.
She (and you) know where I am if you need a chat. I'll try and check in daily for the next week just in case. But remember all is public here.

No-one can really do anything....I think dad is due home soon, I'm sure he's on an early finish on a Friday....
I just wish I could help her, but I can't. I'm in limbo and don't know much about what to do.
Thanks guys for your help, comments and concerns...need to log off now.

VV...
Do not panic, be supportive and as helpful and friendly you can be...
Listen, talk to her, show her your love and caringness and that should make all the difference you can...

Just feeling confused....angry....
Difficult to calm down and relax. Tensions running high and I'm in real need of a punch bag right now, but I think I'll have to make do with the brick wall I carry on my back for such emergencies.
