abbi normal "Putting on the Ritz" with Dr Frankenstein Started conversation Sep 22, 2005
I believe-
That we don't have to change friends if we understand that friends change.
That no matter how good a friend is, they're going to hurt you every once in a while and you must forgive them for that.
That true friendship continues to grow, even over the longest distance. Same goes for true love.
That you can do something in an instant that will give you heartache for life.
That it's taking me a long time to become closer to the person I want to be.
That you should always leave loved ones with loving words. It may be the last time you see them.
That you can keep going long after you feel you can't.
That we are responsible for what we do, no matter how we feel.
That either you control your attitude or it controls you.
That regardless of how hot and steamy a relationship is at first, the passion fades and there had better be something else to take its place.
That heroes are the people who do what has to be done when it needs to be done, regardless of the consequences.
That money is a lousy way of keeping score.
That my best friends and I can do anything or nothing and have the best time.
That sometimes the people you expect to kick you when you're down, will be the ones to help you get back up.
That sometimes when I'm angry I have the right to be angry, but that doesn't give me the right to be cruel.
That maturity has more to do with what types of experiences you've had and what you've learned from them and less to do with how many birthdays you've celebrated.
That it isn't always enough to be forgiven by others. Sometimes you have to learn to forgive yourself.
That no matter how badly your heart is broken, the world doesn't stop for your grief.
That our background and circumstances may have influenced who we are, but we are responsible for who we become.
That just because two people argue, it doesn't mean they don't love each other. And just because they don't argue, it doesn't mean they do.
That you shouldn't be so eager to find out a secret. It could change your life forever.
That two people can look at the exact same thing and see something totally different.
That your life can be changed in a matter of hours by people who don't even know you.
That even when you think you have no more to give, when a friend cries out to you, you will find the strength to help.
That credentials on the wall do not make you a decent human being.

I am so pleased that others like it
I am never sure whether to post these types of things.
I figured it was a good place to save it in any case.
You all (that like it) can probably see why this is my favorite Auntie.
My last Auntie too,
I am afraid she will not be around much longer.
She is a jewel

if I hurt a friend, I hurt myself MORE than the friend. Might not be a strong or big bloke, but my shoulder will always be there for a friend, no matter what the load

Abbi you are good writer!
this made think of Howard Jones songs from his new album "revolution of the heart"
"celebrate our love"
we have got to get ourselves in rhythm
wake up the heart that seems to have fallen asleep
send a wave of joy across the planet
synchronize 6 billion lives to one beat

"the precense of other"
feel the presence of other
love the resistance it presents
different from and outside of me
pushing me to find what is self

Well-phrased versions of thoughts that I have expressed poorly myself.

Some humorous and practical notes
Do not pet the sweaty things and not sweat the petty things.
Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.
Depression is merely anger without enthusiasm.
You shouldn't compare yourself to others - they are more screwed up than you think!
I've learned that whatever hits the fan will not be evenly distributed.
I've learned that one good turn gets most of the blankets.

"Depression is anger without enthusiasm"; how true!!! Hence me screeching loudly "i am NOT F***ing DEPRESSED!!!!"
The blanket one is true too; gawd; i renamed one guy "maggot" 'cos he had the ability to turn over silently & remove all known bedcovers & turn himself into a pupa, leaving a freezing but fuming partner behind.

I am notoriously guilty of this one. The more comfortable I am, the more likely to cocoon myself in the covers, especially if I'm the first one to bed. Poor K keeps a separate comforter on the side just in case.

Ah but, you're innocent when you dream
Or sleep, in this case.
We have a new 'winter challenge' coming up as we bought a king-size bed (180cm wide) last spring. We don't want to fork out for a new duvet - the one we have just covers the top of the bed and we have bought a nice quilted counterpane to go over it that nicely drapes over the sides of the bed (to keep out draughts).
It's me that tends to be the 'duvet hog' here as I feel the cold more than Noggin does. So it will be interesting to see what happens this winter.
(sorry for the thread drift, abbi!)

The first couple years we were married, Tom and I had a queen bed (or at least a queen mattress and boxspring--someone gave us a double bed that got put in storage until we moved, and the mattress and spring got donated), and we just used two separate sets of covers (I'm not the blanket hog Plus I don't like quite as many covers...)
