I WIN, I WIN! Jodan wins!!
Posted Jun 28, 2005
Ok, some of you will have noticed that I've been largely gone for a few days. Well, just play along if you haven't noticed that...
My internet pooped out, so I plugged everything in and out and in again, had to get a new cable modem, which turned out to be unnecessary, then a new cable altogether, which involved drilling through a wall, and then plugged everything in and out and in again, and I WON!

Peer Review, Only Different - Let's PROD it!
Posted May 12, 2005
There's a problem in the Edited Guide and it isn't getting better. There's a conspicuous lack of entries that challenge the reader. Entries that make him stop mid-paragraph and say 'Hmmm'. There's a lack of entries in the Edited Guide that justify our existence as an unconventional guide.
Please read A4053412 in this week's Post . If you agree with its thesis, let me know here and help us. If not, please let me know (elsewhere, if possible). I know we don't have all the solutions, so I humbly ask for your help in finding one that works.
I'm not calling for fiction and first person opinions/rants to be put into the Edited Guide. I would like to see a stimulating guide - a celebration of writing, in which Peer Review is a place where you go as much for entertainment as for fulfilling one's duties. Everyone on this site should look forward to the Front Page every day. When clicking on one of the three new entries, I want to be able to absolutely *know* I will be entertained and stimulated.
I love this site of ours, and it's got a sense of greatness about it. Let's not waste it on an encyclopedia. Please, I'm asking, for all I have done for h2g2, that this plea is taken seriously and that those who read this post will reply and tell me that the Guide needs work and you will help.

I can't go anywhere without seeing it!
Posted Apr 30, 2005
I was looking through my bookmarks, and I got to one of the political blogs I read regularly, called Captain's Quarters. (it's conservative, and it's well written, so a lot of the folk around here would be well advised not to wander around it unless they want to get angry). And what do I see but a glowing review about the HHGG movie? http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/archives/004388.php.
I immediately registered, logged in and posted a comment directing people to h2g2 (by the way, one of the other comments was "what's a five-book trilogy?") It's a well read conservative blog. I've seen it on CNN a few times. Who knows? Maybe we'll get a few conservatives onsite so all the liberals will have someone to pick on instead of fighting amongst themselves?

150,000 Words Accepted into the Guide!
Posted Apr 23, 2005
Or 152,896 to be exact My 'History of Seinfeld' entry's acception (and its 7,000 words) put me over that mark.
I was working on an entry, and it seemed a bit long, I found that is was about 4,000 words long (and it's only about 2/5ths of the way done ). I wasn't really sure if that was above average for me, so I found out that and some other things too. Like that my average entry length is 2,012 words (about the length of A3073619 Smurfs).

Goodbye, GW

I helped test the Get Writing site when it was new and I was still a BBCi Tester. It was a great site - brilliantly and beautifully designed. It was very purple.
It's going down soon - very soon, unfortunately. The DNA community will suffer for it.

Write an Entry
"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
