Thought we needed a baseball thread.
So, the Yankees have nearly blown an 8.5 game lead in their division. It is no longer certain that they will win their division.
And everyone is talking about the Red Sox. The AL is starting to be intereting.

Ahhhem.
Seem to have missed this on my conversations, and I seem to have found it in exactly the time I don't have time to bother you about your misuse of the common rules and your hypocrisy.
No, but seriously, it's a good idea to have a baseball thread, or else it'll leak into UVP and bother Pimms.

I can acknowledge that the American League races are becoming interesting without actually likeing the America League.
Since we are making up well-known unwritten rules, whenever I decide to talk about the American League I shall refer to it as taking the 'Hillbilly Priviledge' - since Hillbilies are much more subtle in their reasoning than given credit for.
So, how about ~my~ Cardinals? Their W/L pct is .676. You realize that it's possible for them to go over .700. I will refrain from mentioning the poor showing of the Reds for the remainder of the season. I've been in your shoes. The Cards have had their share of really lousy seasons. But I will continue to gloat about the Cardinals. I can't help myself. It's hereditary. and when the REds have a great season, I shall be available to listen to your gloating.
I have been wearing Cardinal t-shirts and insulting a staff member who likes the Cubs. Because she feels sorry for them, she claims.
The Yankees are only at .620. And the Red Sox are within 3.

I love those good old Red Sox. They're like Charlie Brown. Every time someone put the football up, they yanked it away. I have no doubt something will screw up the season for the Red Sox. The Cubs will win before them. The Cubs are much less cursed.
I wasn't making up rules. It's just like etiquette. It's unwritten!
Unfortunately, team statistics don't count in the post-season. ~My~ Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, Expos or Royals will win the World Series (and I reserve the right to add to this list in the middle of October)

So you don't care who wins as long as it isn't the Cardinals - so you can rub Hyp's nose in it. I can buy that argument.
Shriek!!!!!!!!!! Here she comes. Run for your life.

Hey! Two against one isn't fair.
Jodan, did you know that Wolfgang once tried out to be a bat boy for the high school softball team? But he never could catch a bat!
Sometimes I crack myself up.

J Posted Sep 8, 2004
Right. Two against one...
Wolfgang doesn't strike me as the bat-boy type. More the American James Bond, international suave kind.
(now it should be two against one)

Actually Wolfgang somewhat resembles Harrison Ford. Imagine Harrison Ford wearing an apron and a chef's hat and you'll have Wolfgang. I insist on my sidekicks resembling movie stars. Lola is of course Marilyn Monroe.

It's funny, because Pip mildly resembles lambchop, Fiona is like Dolly and Buck looks like John F Kennedy with wool.

Hypatia Posted Sep 8, 2004
I know Lambchop is a puppet. But it still has to be either a boy or girl puppet. Or perhaps a little hermaphrodite puppet.

He's young. He has lots of good qualities. He's energetic, loyal, funny, and is a team player. I like Pip. I think of Pip as a Hugh Grant type.

J Posted Sep 9, 2004
Hugh Grant? I think of him as a silly little guy. Sort of like the gag guy in a bad sitcom or comedy routine. Costello to Buck's Abbott. Or maybe the other way around...
Always loyal though. One great thing about not being very intelligent is that you tend to be kinder and more loyal.

Hypatia Posted Sep 10, 2004
But the gag guy ~is~ Hugh Grant. He's a clown. A bumbler. But charming and loveable. I think it would be Abbot...but I'm not sure.

J Posted Sep 10, 2004
Well, he's also the romantic comedy guy, which Pip is not.
I thought it was Costello who was the bumbler. Maybe Curly to Buck's Moe.

Hypatia Posted Sep 10, 2004
You're probably right. I never did watch them...Abbot and Costello.
I don't like the Three Stooges. Too much hitting to suit me.
I'd better go get my shower and turn in early. Talk to you tomorrow evening.

I have only watched a few Three Stooges shorts. And Abbott and Costello I've only heard Who's on First.
See you tomorrow.

Hypatia Posted Sep 11, 2004
I think Costello was the fat one.
Back in the 50's, when I was in elementay school, the Three Stooges were on tv every afternoon followed by a western hour with Gene Autry, Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. We also had Howdy Doody in those days and Pinky Lee. And the Micky Mouse Club. M I C....C you real soon....K E Y....Y? Because we like you! M O U S E.
