The Sox have been doomed since Schilling stepped out.
Anything you think could be that moment we knew that the Sox were dead? I can't recall anything. So probably not going to be as legendary as Bucky Dent or Boone, eh?

This is totally embarrassing. The wild card team, no less. Now do you understand why I hate the playoffs? And why being a Cardinals fan is so dang nerve wracking. They choke during playoffs. I just knew this would happen.
Whereas the Yankees loooooooooooooove post season play. They don't get good until October.
It's fate for the Sox. It just isn't meant to be. Sort of like me winning the lottery. Ok, so I don't actually buy a ticket very often, but what's the point? The odds are a gazillion to one. I buy a Powerball ticket every time I buy gasoline. But I get very good mileage. And don't drive much. I've never bought the scratch off tickets. My circ supervisor's granddaughter won $30,000 with a scratcher ticket.

Well, they had the home team advantage. Look at how the Sox won at Fenway and were destroyed in Yankee Stadium (with a notable exception...)
I'm not going to change my position that the Cardinals will win. The Astros got lucky with that homer. But then again, the Sox got lucky as well.

I don't want to talk about it.
The Sox tied their series. Who'd a thunk it?
Well, in the words of a great philosopher, "It ain't over till it's over."

Feeling better now. 12 innings! I nearly had a stroke.
As to the Sox, my faith in God has been restored. I assume you watched it. When they took Lowe out and brought Martinez in, I thought they had just blown it. Then the crowd got going and I remembered why I dislike the Yankees so much. It's goes beyond fun with them. They are one mean-spirited lot. I'm thrilled they lost.
But I got a trifle mean-spirited myself. Everytime they chanted 'Whose Your Daddy?', I chanted 'Yo Mamma' at the screen. Not particularly dignified and something I wouldn't have wanted my board president to observe, but it made me feel better.

It ain't over at all.
It has to be said that the Yankee fans were supporting their team when Martinez was on with that obnoxious chant - when they were down by 5 or 6 runs.
This is going to be a great World Series. Either the Red Sox win, which would be amazing, or the curse shows itself again, which would give me something to write about around here.

Chants aimed at individual players are mean-spirited. They weren't using a generic, rah rah, go Yankees chant. They were trying to humiliate Martinez for making a remark that was actually flattering to NY. If Martinez had made a nasty, hateful remark, then I'd say go ahead and raz him. But this time, the fans are way out of line. They deserved to lose.
Having said that....the Yankees had the best record in the AL. they deserve to be in the World Series. I still hate the playoffs.

One thing I must give the Yankees.....they look neat. The Red Sox look grubby and unkempt. Shirts not tucked in, uniforms not uniform, and at least half of them need a haircut, a shave or a bath. They should take more pride in themselves and their team and try to make a good appearance. Some folks notice things like that.

I like the Red Sox uniform better. Red and white is better than the pinstripes. But some of the Red Sox do need a shave... Bellhorn and Damon come to mind.
There were a few Let's Go Yankees chants there. But I agree. Martinez doesn't deserve any of that.

I like the Sox uniform better, too. If the wearers would tuck in their shirts, etc. Maybe they'll clean up for the WS.
I'm very nervous about tonight. In one conversation it was said that they hoped Houston won so the WS would be Massachusetts against Texas - Kerry against Bush. But I don't want that. it would be another distraction - a reason for the candidates to dodge taking about the issues. Not that I can imagine any voter who really hasn't made up his mind at this point.

It must be an interesting time to be a Massachusetts resident. The Patriots are winning in football, the Red Sox are winning in baseball, one of their senators is running for President... and the other one is Ted Kennedy.

Sometimes I think it's the Cards who are cursed. But, they're at home now and the crowd will get behind them. That should make a difference. And they do have the better team - like that means anything.
I refuse to discuss it.
J Posted Oct 26, 2004
No, it's the Red Sox that are cursed.
When the players are confident, the crowd is for them and the park suits them, they get a huge advantage. I think with the day break the Cards had and their return to Missouri, they'll win. But I've been wrong about everything else, of course.
