That turned out well!
Cardinals 1.....Dodgers 0
Since you won't celebrate with me, I'll just keep myself company. This way I can eat what I please without any snide remarks.

Dang! I'm out of Crunch & Munch! Can't watch baseball without caramel corn of some kind. Have you noticed that the little boxes of Cracker Jacks are always stale? So, I have switched to Crunch & Munch. I'll have to go by the store on the way home.

I thought I heard on the TV today that the Braves lost to the Astros in their series and are going for the title against the Cardinals.
The Yanks and Red Sox are beginning a series today... I'm worried voter turnout will be low in Massachusetts when they lose...

Game 1 is tonight - Houston at St. Louis. At 7:19 PM. Not 7:20. 7:19.
Maybe Boston will win. Not likely, but anything is possible.

You're sounding like a Bostonian. Once you accept that no matter what, Boston will lose, the games are really entertaining.
I watched a bit of the first part of Boston and New York last night. I take great joy in imagining Red Sox fans weighing the odds. It's more sadistic than I usually care to be, but so are the Yankee fans.
"Who's youre daddy?... Who's your daddy?!"

You're taking pride in being sadistic, huh? Yep, you'd make a good Yankees fan.
I used to like the Yankees when I was a kid because of Mickey Mantle.
Too bad about Ken Caminiti. It's always sad to watch talented young people throw their lives away because of drugs.

The Yankees have always been an exciting team. But they used to do it with heart and brains. Now they do it with money.
Two minutes.

For the Cardinals.
I really do wish the Red Sox would beat the Yankees, if only the Yankees didn't have a superior team...

Hypatia Posted Oct 14, 2004
The Red Sox don't believe in themselves enough to beat the Yankees. That's what has to happen when you're battling the best players in the sport. Look what happened to the American 'Dream Team' at the Olympics. High dollar talent makes a diffference, but any team can be beaten. The Red Sox just have to convince themselves of that.
Trailing 2-0 is hard to overcome.
The lead seesawed in the Cardinals game. It was quite etertaining. And the 9th inning was good.

Who cares about Basketball?
I don't see any surprises in the future of these League Championship Series... the Yankees and the Cardinals will advance to the World Series... Boston will complain... the usual.
I have no idea what'll happen in the World Series though.

Hypatia Posted Oct 14, 2004
I'm not so sure the Cardinals will advance. They have a history of blowing it in the playoffs. On the other hand, they do have the better team....certainly the better bull pen. So I am cautiously optimistic.
I could have won a pair of tickets to tonights game. I was driving to Sporingfield this morning in a downpour, listening to the radio. Anyway, they were trying to give away these tickets and no one knew the answer to the questions. I, being a lifelong Cardinals fan, knew the answers. I thought of calling in, but there isn't any way I could have gone, so it seemed pointless.
The last time the Cardinals and the Yankees met in the World Series was in 1964. We won. Then in 1967 the Cardinals defeated the Red Sox in the World Series. We lost to the Tigers in '68. Then the playoffs started.

You shouldn't have beat the Red Sox. Make them stop complaining at least.
The better team will generally win. History doesn't mean anything. It's the future that counts!

Hypatia Posted Oct 15, 2004
History is everything. Just ask the Red Sox and the Cubs.
So far, so good.
At least the weather should be better in Houston tomorrow.
I feel sorry for the young baseball fans who were born after the playoff system started. At first there were just two divisions in each league....which was bad but better than the way it is now. They expansion reared it's ugly head. The owners were trying to turn baseball into football.

J Posted Oct 15, 2004
The weather is miserable here now
Who knows? The Astros and Red Sox might wind up winning today with home-field advantage. Lord knows the Sox design their hitter to hit over the Green monster.
Cardinals magic number is 6
Hypatia Posted Oct 16, 2004
Well, the Yankee/Sox game was cancelled because of rain. Which goes to show that a day without baseball is like a day without sunshine.
Whatever happened to Anita Bryant, anyway?
Cardinals - Yeah you - get your act together!
J Posted Oct 18, 2004
Well, the Red Sox staved off the inevitable though
I think the Cards will still win. It's not time to worry.

Hypatia Posted Oct 18, 2004
The Astros always do well against the Cardinals. It is definitely time to worry. Even this year, they won more than they lost against the Cards.
Hey, the Red Sox are doomed. But I'm glad the Yankees didn't get a sweep. That lets the Sox end the season with a little dignity.
It should be the Yankees and Cardinals - who met for the last time exactly 40 years ago. Which would be a cool little angle to the series.
Key: Complain about this post
