I'm headed downstairs to snack on some brownies. Too bad I just missed talking to PC. I've added you to my friends list, hope that's okay.

It's getting autumn-y here, too... nights are becoming cooler and cooler.
We don't get the pretty leaf colours, though - it's just yellow and brown, mostly.
(Great, now I'm gonna have 'Golden Brown' stuck to my head all day! )
Over here, winter is the season everything starts turning green again, after a long dry summer. That's always nice.

Hi all. It's hard to believe that a week ago i was in the lovely florida sunshine, and here it's dark and dull, and the sky is so grey.Autumn used to be lovely, but it seems so lifeless now,i keep wondering why the fog ,which we havent seen much of in past years,is suddenly making a re-appearence quite often.Oh well, roll on spring!!!

I think that comes from my chldhood, when you literally could not see your hand in front of your face, although why we walked about with our hands there i'll never know!!

I like fog, too! It's kinda creepy when you can't see where you're going, though.
My wisdom tooth (the one that's always acting up, it's impacted, for those of you who haven't heard me whine about it yet, and has a cavity which periodically gets infected) is killing me and has been since yesterday. It's given me a fever and I feel kinda crappy. So, I'm sorry for wandering off to bed last night kind of abruptly.

NAG nag nag nag nag....if it's giving you a fever, there's an infection, go see your & get antibiotics, then once they have brought the infection down, go see your dentist & get the damn thing sorted out!!!!

From the dew-soaked hedge creeps a crawly caterpillar,/
When the dawn begins to crack./
It’s all part of my autumn almanac/
Breeze blows leaves of a musty-coloured yellow,/
So I sweep them in my sack./
Yes, yes, yes, it’s my autumn almanac.

Hmm. Where did my posting go? Anyway...what I said was...
It's the mushrooming season. Last week I found a boletus with only minor slug damage. I haven't had time for a proper forage, but I could do with some chanterelles. Yesterday I discovered a clump of honey fungus at the bottom of my garden, put past eating. With honey fungus, you have to catch the baby ones. Never mind - they spread like wildfire, so there's bound to be more.
They have a particularly thick mycellium, honey fungus. Like tough, black bootlaces.

Oh...

And PC - get that tooth sorted!

Saw a dentist yesterday afternoon- no infection, the fever's cause the tooth is still moving to come all the way in. It does have a cavity, and will need to come out. She gave me a mild antibiotic just in case, and some lovely Naproxen for the ache. Feeling much better today!
I absolutely LOVE mushrooms!! The ones I see growing here are mainly the ones we're told not to eat. Saw some gorgeous orange ones last weekend, growing on an old tree stump.
I made stuffed butternut squash, broiled tomatoes, and pumpkin muffins last night. Maybe later on I'll stick the "recipes" on the recipe thread...

Orange ones from a tree trunk are quite possibly honey fungus. Were they in a clump?
http://www.organicgardening.org.uk/factsheets/dc19.php
Honey Fungus are parasitic - but most mushrooms are symbiotic: The mushroom needs a tree to grow with, but the tree also needs the mushroom. In fact...most species of trees need fungi in order to survive.

Un Bon mariage eh!!!
Over here in France of course; mushroom hunting is elevated to the status of an art form. I love the fact that you can go into the pharmacy waving a bit of fungi around & everything stops whilst they all consult the oracle to tell you what it is & whether you will die from eating it or alternatively what it should be cooked with.
I found a load of wonderful chanterelles in the grounds of the loony bin when i was enjoying their in house hospitality & couple of years back. I dried them & use them in cheesboxes.
Spotted a mushroom the other day, te he!

Since eating wild mushrooms is considered un-British, Scotland exports chanterelles to France! (but not if I find them first )
