I dunno - it depends on the cider no? If white lightning was the only thing on offer
Zantic (quick explination, the majority of alcholic cider is cheap and cheerful - especially white lightning - and is the sort of thing most of us start drinking when still in school and want to be bigshots)

Oh, OK. I did not know that. Probably better then to use the non-alky stuff and spike with a nice apple brandy.

Sorry Big Red, I was teasing TPC. But beware if you ever come over here. Most of what's served in pubs is the cheap rubbish at expensive rates. That goes for Cider and Larger (otherwise known as fizzy disco water)too....
If you are spiking, you'd better have a non-spiked for the drivers.
So, that's Black Pig, Pink Pig and mulled apple juice, spiked and non spiked... Shall I take over the feeding of folk then?

Don't forget Tocatta's specially commissioned beer!
There's gonna be some sore heads after this year's bash....

Yes!
And thanks for the pub tips. I've been to the U.K. only once (two weeks in London in 1994, I think, I've forgotten which year exactly) and I was way too intimidated to order a beer in a pub because I knew (and know)NOTHING about what to order, was told it was frowned on for women to order pints, etc.

Pardon while I bust a gut or three. I've just moved from London, having lived there for three years. If it was frowned upon for wimmin to order a pint (or round) then I wouldn't have turned into the alkaholic I currently am!
Do I rmember you saying you don't like ale? If you are ever in this country again I'd suggest you give it a go. It's a luvverly drink, and there are so many different kinds that you will always find something you like. The thing about England is that they are into the bitters, which are very hoppy and hard for people to get into. Go for a mild or a heavy (that's what we make in scotland, from malts rather than hops)
Most pubs are quite happy to give you a taster of any beer before you buy it (which has saved me from a rubbish pint many a time)This is less likely for generic largers, but if it's a real ale pub then they will usually have a nice larger or two too...

Bored? Me? Nah. (Lets see, I've baked a cake, made soup and even did a proper macaroni cheese in the oven and everything this evening. Time to find a hobby?)

Glad to hear the women/pint adage is crap, like so much of what you hear before you go to another country!
Homemade mac 'n' cheese is one of the most delish, delightful comfort foods in the world! I have my mother's recipe -- GOTTA use sharp cheddar.

Indeed, should you find yourself in the Glasgow vicinity around about the Saturday before Christmas, please come make us mulled apple stuff!
In return we will ply you with finest ales these islands have to offer

What a tempting offer! Much better than going to Florida for Christmas, which is where my parents still live, and running the risk of sweating on Christmas Day.
I'm posting the recipe on my page right now, as a journal entry.

I was having a 'Granny' night last night. Made paternal grans soup and mac cheese and maternal grans cold tea cake. Now I'm faced with having to eat it all
