'Tis alright, we can talk on site.

My Mum phoned about an hour ago. My Nan was rushed into hospital last night, but didn't make it until the morning. smiley - sadface

My Mum's had to cancel a holiday and go back home: she's really upset and quite fragile.

It leaves me a bit of a dichotomy. I feel I need to spend a couple of days with Mum, as she's not doing particularly well, but I also have to get 60 quite lazy Year 10 pupils to complete their coursework over the next two weeks.

B, I am so very sorry to hear that smiley - cuddle

Go in and give year 10 the riot act, then go to Mum.. she needs her family round her now.

Thought you might say that.

It's not that simple. I can't rely on them getting any work done if I'm not there.

You have the best reason possible for trusting them... They will do it for Sir, to make him feel better smiley - smiley

You are not the only teacher who can supervise them smiley - hug

B - condolences

Regarding the kids - If they're not in the right frame of mind 10 days before there exams its their fault not yours.

Make it a long weekend with Mum, and 2 days for the service.

And regarding the topic of this conversation, as one of the most evil buggers I've ever met remarked to me one day, "Just 'cause I'm disabled, it doesn't mean I'm a nice person."

I don't know the dynamics of British schools, so I can't really comment on your predicament. But get to your mother as soon as you can.

I'm not really here

I'm sorry to hear that B.

Does your mother have other family around her? She'll be grieving for a long time, these kids need you for their future, your mum will understand? My mum and my dad were still thinking of ther kids and what was best for them even though they were grieving.

My dad can't even bring himself to collect my nan's ashes from the funeral people three months later, so there will be other times for you to be there for your mum.
