http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F81081?thread=159766 I haven't had a chance (too busy working on #6) to check them. Take a look. There's several above I haven't gotten to yet either. We need some comments on all of them. From everybody. but, right now, I'm taking a well deserved supper-break, jwf

It would be immodest if I seconded a nomination for my own entries. And they're already immodest enough: 3rd footnote in Ma's Hand-Me-Down Bratwurst Soup points out that "I can write the hind leg off a horse."
Wouldn't you know it, the damned recipes do it to me every time? After about 2 years of posting short fiction and essays and movie reviews to my original homepage, the piece that has gotten the most attention was a list of angry, disgusting, cheap recipes that I wrote several years ago. Of the few pages I've written that have been noticed and spontaneously linked from other places around the web, the one that has gotten the most hits is ART OF LAZE RECIPES.
All my wasted effort on striving for literary perfection, and it's the recipes that keep coming back to haunt me.
The RobiComb looks like a good one, but nothing to prevent it going in the Edited Guide. Should be a last resort.

irritatingly, Gaston has deleted one of his entries (the one in Issue 3 - A617something). What should we do about this?

Thanks Lucinda. I have queried gaston at his homepage and asked him to restore it long enough for us to copy it to our pages. http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F76471?thread=159984&post=1621126#p1621126 And thanks for updating the nominations

The CAC CONTINUUM - The ongoing adventures of the Committee for Alien Content (a division of AggGag) Posted Jan 8, 2002
I found The Christmas Story on the 'cancelled' entries of the AGG/GAG homepage and 'uncancelled' it.
Maybe it was me that 'deleted' it yesterday when I was trying to bring the Archives back to the top of homepage Entries list. This business of entries appearing on multiple pages is new to me and still a bit confusing.
I must go and see if it has also now been restored to gaston's page.
It is now in AGG/GAG's 'other guide entries' and I must check to se if the Archives link works.
sorry if it me that caused the irriation

The CAC CONTINUUM - The ongoing adventures of the Committee for Alien Content (a division of AggGag) Posted Jan 8, 2002
*still more confusing and time consuming babble from the almost useless Philospher King*
The link from the newly posted 'Official Post Archives' will link to the Christmas Story, the AGG/GAG version at "A671988".
But Lucinda's 'Glorious Archives' page now shows only the "A671988" number for it, and not the title or Lucinda's previous commentary, but the link works!
The original gaston version in the AWW is still deleted from gaston's page but our version ("A671988" Edited by AGG/GAG) has reappeared on his page. If he deletes it from there will it disappear on our page too?
Should I remove his U-number from the 'contributing researcher box' to prevent it happening again. Meanwhile I've copied it under the title 'xams keeper' A678675 for safe keeping until I get advised how to proceed.

Post Team Posted Jan 8, 2002
Hi jwf
Excuse me butting in, but worry not!
Although gaston is given (quite rightly) full credit for his entry he is unable to edit or delete it as he isn't billed as 'editor' but 'written and researched by'. (The same applies to the Post Archives btw, so if you want anything changing you will have to shout at the Team.)
I imagine that Lucinda temporarily removed the link until the item returned, thus avoiding problems with broken links, although he has left it in the upper section of the page intact.
Just a thought...
Is it a good idea to hold the archives of those AGG/GAG entries which have already appeared on the same page as the ones you hope to feature at a later date? You may find others having sneak previews!

The CAC CONTINUUM - The ongoing adventures of the Committee for Alien Content (a division of AggGag) Posted Jan 8, 2002
Sorry to sound so dumb but all this kafuffle is a new experience. So gaston can delete the Story from his page and it will not effect our entry?
And yes, I agree, Lucinda's more (than the Post's) COLOURFUL Archives should probably be separated from our nominations list. But I hesitate to ask him to double his efforts and manage yet one more page. I am having trouble myself keeping all the threads straight, because they come from different pages and different IDs.
The 'more suggestions' comes from Glorious Archives.
Bossels 'Scouted for you' is off the Original AGG/GAG Homepage.
etc.
Sorry, I know you face the same difficulties and perhaps tenfold! So I will stop whining and complaining, but I want to make it clear I am always open to suggestions and helpful hints on how to make this run more smoothly.
Thanks for the observation, and perhaps Lucinda will now heed 'our' suggestion and isolate the Nominations from the Glorious Archives and put it under some less obvious title away from the hairy Public. Or one of the others could volunteer to manage the Nominations list somewhere...
BTW #6 is almost ready, just waiting for Spiff to do one intro.

Deidzoeb Posted Jan 9, 2002
I volunteer to maintain a separate Nominations page (using AGG/GAG as author of the page), if Lucinda/Martin won't mind. It will give him/her more time to administer the Archives.

Post Team Posted Jan 9, 2002
Indeed, gaston's entry was worked on by X Subcom, so it is X Subcom's version of the entry which features in both TP and your archives! If gaston deletes his own entry there will be no effect to either the AGG/GAG item or the TP one.

tonsil, could we get your opinion on a different organizational discussion? Over at http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F80670?thread=157502&post=1622400#p1622400 we've been debating an offer by Peta to possibly give AGG/GAG some links from other high visibility areas of h2g2 like maybe the "READ" button or the "TALK" button. I'm not sure if you've read any of it or have an opinion, but I didn't see your name on the thread, and it would be nice to hear everybody comment, so we can lay it to rest and decide one way or the other. Thanks.

Perhaps we should consider asking Peta to discuss our status with the h2g2 Editors and ask them to add us to the links of the Contribute page. Here, the editors describe in detail the intended functions of the various writing forums and even link to the Flea Market.
I said elsewhere we are like 'the back door to Fame' because we offer (via the good graces of the H2G2Post) promotion to writers who insist on writing in the first person, writing fiction, writing nonsense, refusing feedback or otherwise disregarding the Guidelines. And we also encourage those with an urge to fix up or finish Flea Market material.
But we must leave it to them to judge our efforts to date and to determine if we have the will and resources to continue in a meaningful way which might be of value to aspiring but uncontrolled genius. Perhaps, with Peta's support, we can convince the editors to amend the existing Contribute page to include AGG/GAG as another way for researchers to vent their creativity and still hope for an audience.

jwf,
That sounds great, but I see an unexpected hurdle. They're in the middle of a major overhaul of the Review Forums (including Peer Review, Writing Workshop and I think AWW, etc, all those places where PR entries are later dumped). I'm afraid any changes that affect those areas will be seen as low priority until the new system for Review Fora is settled. But I could be wrong. Maybe they'll consider it easier to slip something in right now with all the other adjustments?
But even if we waited a few extra weeks or month til the new Review Forum system settled, it would be wild to see how many people might submit guide entries if they saw AGG/GAG legitimized on the CONTRIBUTE page.

The CAC CONTINUUM - The ongoing adventures of the Committee for Alien Content (a division of AggGag) Posted Jan 9, 2002
Yes thanks =X. You can set it up as AGG/GAG so we can all post to it, or as yourself on your own homepage if you put the AGG/GAG user number as a 'contributing researcher' in the box at the bottom of the edit page. This, I have just discovered will have it appear on the AGG/GAG hompepage as well, but only you can edit it.
Give it some obscure not so obvious name like 'queue' or 'the waiters' so the Gen Public won't be getting previews, and any conversations we have off that page will be relatively private.
thanks,
jwf
Looking good, your philosophicalness!

Hi all,
#6 looks good, jw, I really like what you've done with the intro to our joint pick of the week - it really is one from all of us.
In fact, wasn't it the Boss who picked it up in the first place.
Boss!
*I know he just loves being called Boss*

Should we then restrict all the silliness and discussions to one thread?
Tonsil Revenge (PG) Posted Jan 10, 2002
I have no objection to AGG/GAG being linked to CONTRIBUTE if we can agree on some sort of mentoring for the sheelp that come to be sheared. So far we haven't had any objections to our recommendations. If we get involved in direct editing, that might be a little interesting.
Also, just a thought, if that is the case, should we add the AGG/GAG to our nicknames so that we appear to have some official status or should the great AGG/GAG itself be the only entity dealing with victims?
