Mom Not Doing Well

My Mom has Parkinson's, and while she has coped with it well for several years, in the past few weeks she has gotten much worse. Dementia is starting. She is refusing to take her medicine, and she fell once earlier this week. It makes this Christmas a sad one.

So sorry you have this heartache in the family.
She is lucky to be surrounded by a loving family.
I hope she stays safe.
Cherish the time you have and any her lucid moments ,if they still exist. Have the best Christmas you can

Sorry to hear your mum isn't doing so well, it is trying at the best of times, but at Christmas things like this always seem especially hard.

Hi JEllen
I hope you still get moments with her when she is lucid, make the most of them.
My father in laws parkinsons used to get worse when he had a bug, so you never know this maybe temporary. Give her lots of things to keep her immune system strong and keep her warm. If nothing else she will be comfortable and cosy, she will know you are all around her looking after her.
How is your Dad coping?

JEllen,
if there's a time of year for indulging in hope, this is it.
So here's hoping, for you and yours, that the Christmas you have this year is one to remember for all the right reasons.

So much heartache and sadness around, it's hard to enjoy the festive season when you're a "certain age" because of your own situation or thinking of others' suffering.
My thoughts and prayers are with you JEllen
God Bless your Mum

Best wishes from me, too - give your Mom your love and try and be patient with her .... you're probably doing all that anyway. Find out as much as you can about the illness (a lot of work is being done on Parkinson's at the moment) I hope it's not hereditary... if so, maybe you can find out what can be done to prevent others in the family getting it, and what your mother can do to make life easier - if possible.
Have a lovely Christmas, and treat yourself to one or two things when you get a chance! We look forward to hearing your film reviews.

My dear JEllen..I am sorry your mom is not well, my heart goes out to you,and I know what your feeling,my mom had Parkinsons and Alzeimers, but all i could do was be there for her, even when she did not know me,I still had hope that when I was with her she somehow knew me,and that my love got thru to her.you can only be there for her and support your dad and each other.
God Blessxxx

I feel for you.
I lost my mom last Sept. and it definitely put a shadow on my x-mas, as well as her birthday, which was Feb.
There is nothing I can say that'll make it feel better, just dont keep it bottled up!
keep writing about it, and dont pull any punches.. let it all hang out. It'll help purge the soul.

Thank you Murray. My condolences for your Mom. I actually try not to talk about my Mom too much on h2g2 because I think she deserves some privacy. But it is helpful to get supportive posts like yours, so I do post about it some.
Are you new to h2g2? If so welcome. How did you come across my page?
