The BBC has terms within terms, the overall view of content is one thing, but lower down every service has to be assigned to a department, and to a department within a department...and then has to have a product that can be measured to that departments targets...
Getwriting was assigned to education and h2g2 isn't, I believe.
I think it's if, re the hordes, unless they advertise this place which is doubtful.

Yeah. Strange organisation.
You know what? I'm knackered.
See you around, Waz

Just had a thought, the mobile h2g2 might be on sale in connection with the film. See the movie - get your own Earth edition... Nice piece of BBC merchandising. ?
In which case, an avalanche.

At the risk of being branded a diehard sighing...
I haven't been working on anything, because I'm having computer problems. Again.
I hope we hear from Ben soon That way I wouldn't feel so guilty starting this and then leaving it because of my
ing computer.
You two keep at it. Waz's comments about the article were good. We need as many good cooks as we can get in the kitchen, and I don't know a finer few than the three I thought of asking.

oy!
dya think a wandering maniac, pressed for time graduate student, and wordsmithing gadabout like me could be of any help? i do want to do something interesting with the EG - the writing format for the EG is actually pretty powerful for expressive communication. i know i'd rather write for it than Wikipedia. EG has some interesting subjects, besides.
i can't promise consistency of effort, though. just an intent to chip in once in a while, as often as i humanly can.
what say?

You're welcome by me, db.
I guess you get the gist from the backthread here. Jodan kicked it off after I got a bit heartfelt in one of the "what's wrong with PR?" navel-contemplations that were doing the rounds a couple of weeks back.
I thought the idea was that everyone was going to draft their version of the Post-piece, but I must have been wrong about that because I was the only one to do so. (You can have it if your interested, and if you show me an e-mail address).
Jodan had reservations about aspects of my approach, so I reckon the ball's in his court now. Maybe it's not coming back. The poor dear does tend to wear himself out being conciliatory
I'm working on a piece for PR at the moment, yet another attempt to produce the Entry that's too good to refuse and almost (but not quite) too strange to accept. That's probably my most useful potential contribution. I have no interest in advocacy and no inclination towards diplomacy.
What do you others think? Widen the field? Are we still doing this, or what?

We could always use more
"I thought the idea was that everyone was going to draft their version of the Post-piece, but I must have been wrong about that because I was the only one to do so."
You know I can't write non-non-fiction
Probably a good idea to widen the field. I reckon that the Post piece should've gone in two issues of ago, so let's get it finished by the end of this weekend, if we can.

Wo db
You can remove it now.
I've got it, and I'll send it to the others.
We'll each then send to you to pass on our own address, those of us who consent.

Grassroots revolution? Could I join? (And what a better day than May 1st to join a revolution?)
Oh, um, yeah, sorry, I've been lurking... ahem. Hi.
I haven't been here that long - and haven't really done much either - but I agree the place looks like it could use a bit of a shake. So I'm offering whatever help I could supply.
Admittedly, like db, most of my time is supposed to be spent on Uni stuff, but well, you can always use someone to peel potatoes, right?

J Posted May 1, 2005
I figured there would be lurkers.
Nice to see a newer person agree. I figured it would only be the old hands who wanted to recapture the fleeting glory of past years. I don't see any reason why you can't take part. There will always be potatoes.
Hmm. Pin, email a-coming.

I ran into some of the old front pages recently, can't remember where, and they look... well, they're just more Guide-like, you know?

Hi Jodan
An e-mail's a-gone back.

...Hi Lady P. that you're in. Love the suggestion about letting Jodes do the potatoes (that's what you meant, yeah?)
But the trouble is, he's not allowed any sharp instruments.
Inspire me, Seal-boy.
J Posted May 1, 2005
Yeah, not since the incident. You can sharpen and polish your knives and peelers on though. That's steel wool...
(Touche. Another email back)
Just to let y'all know, we're considering opening this up for further widening. Sort of like one of the clubs and societies that graze so freely in the community pastures, but not quite so desultory.
