AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAnnnnnnnnnndddddd RELAX!
Baby is all present and correct. Saw the heart beating, and hands and feet and head and jaws and spine and everything! was having a bit of a snooze so I had to jiggle about to get it to wake up then saw it stretch and wave its arms about. Was brilliant!
I have got a couple of pictures to scan in and will post a link later, but the sonographer said it wasn't lying in a particularly photogenic position (takes after J in that respect ).
But anyway. Now I feel like I can get on and really enjoy this! We've been to look at baby stuff and after bringing J round from his dead faint at the discovery of how much all this is going to cost we had a great time looking at cute wee things and buggys and cots and stuff.
So, I guess this means something is starting.

Hi Kelli,
Congratulations!
I've been lurking this thread since the beginning with great interest, as we've been going through the same thing.
I'm pregnant too, but didn't want to say anything until after your scan. I had a dating scan at what we thought was twelve weeks but it turned out to be only 9 weeks. According to that, I'm thirteen weeks plus one day today so I think just a few days ahead of you!
It was very sad to hear about Sol, I was thinking of her, so sorry .
Anyway, just wanted to say those things.
Candi.

Aw, Kelli, wonderfulness. With arms and legs and everything! *S and I both take a deep breath grin from ear to ear*
Congratulations Candi!

A happy thread Now that there is good news, I thought I could come in with a little gift. Something that made a massive difference in my life - just on the offchance that it adds to your beautiful birth story which you will be sharing with us soon, I hope:
http://www.homebirth.org.uk/ofp.htm
It's an article about Optimal Foetal Positioning. Basically, for me, it made the difference between having an emergency c-section (my first baby) and a home birth (my second baby). It is common sense but a bit of an unpopular theme in some quarters. See what you make of it.
I wish you joy and love and lots of snuggly sleepy burps into the warm crook of your neck very, very soon.

Kelli, that's great news!! Does this mean you and J can can have your dirty weekend, now?
Candi, great news, as well!

Woohoo
Candi! Congrats! I've not seen you in aaaaagggeeeesss...
I'm surrounded by pregnant women! You 2 on here, my downstairs neighbor, and another friend... I'd be worried about it being catching, except that my monthly confirmation of not-pregnantness just started
But anyway, that's wonderful news!

Congratulations Candi - you are due about three days before me! Is this your first too? Have you felt any movement yet?
Thanks everyone, I finally feel really happy and relaxed about this now and will be telling everyone over the next few days - although I already told quite a few people as I couldn't stop myself
Anyway, scan pics are here: http://uk.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/kellih2g2/album?.dir=5c07re2
In the first one spud is sitting up and sort of leaning against the side of the womb. Both hands are in their lap - you can see the fingers. The legs are curled so you can't really make those out. In the second picture spud has straightened out and stretched out their arms and legs. They were asleep at first, and it took a fair bit of jiggling from me to get them to start moving (takes after J in this respect ) and then wasn't lying in the best position for pictures (again like J) so what we saw on screen was far better than what you can see here but never mind. The sonographer did a down's test which measures the fluid at the back of the neck - the result was that my risk went from 1:441 (due to my age) to 1:1902 so I think we just need to get on with growing this baby
Sol, am thinking of you a lot at the moment, hope you're both coping

Sol Posted Sep 2, 2006
Actually, I'm fine. Really. Slight attack of the manic mood swings, but otherwise not as traumatised as I'd expected. I think I packed all the knashing and wailing all into a week, or something.
And looking forward to regular reports from expectant mothers!
The pix are great. They look as though they are yawning in the second one. Cute.

Wilma, thanks for that link - it can't hurt to sit properly and if it makes a difference then why not!
SpaceCadette - we can't book a dirty weekend until we know when the builders will be here... but we are feeling a lot more positive about everything now!
Sol, glad to hear it
We had to pay for the scan photos - I expected this but loads of people have been complaining about it on my pregnancy message board, as though we should be given them free. I don't see why we shouldn't pay though, the medical bit, ie the scan, is free - why should the NHS have to spend money on giving us mementos? Incidentally, could have given a bit more money and bought the video but I imagine we'd never look at it again after the 20 week scan...
So, I guess this means something is starting.

Thanks for all the congratulations! Hello to all - I had to give up on the Atelier and most of h2g2 because I just can't keep up, but have silently been keeping an eye on journals... and I confess, I've been lurking some of your blogs too for quite a while.
Lovely to see your scan photos, Kelli .
Because I had such an early scan (9 weeks), there's nothing to see really on the photo - just a blob. The radiographer told us which was the head end and showed us the heartbeat but nothing was really distinguishable. She gave us a scan photo for free. I was very surprised as I'd expected to pay for it.
And we'd thought it was 12 weeks already so had just told all our family, so it was a bit of a shock to realise we had three more weeks before the magic 12 week date. However, got past it now, much relieved.
I haven't felt any movements yet, Kelli - it's my first and they usually say you don't feel anything with your first until at least 17-18 weeks, but eagerly awaiting the telltale flutterings.
So, I guess this means something is starting.

Kelli, I'm so pleased all's well . And congrats to Candi, too.
Ooh, first movement the next milestone. Feels like bubbles popping inside you, to start with. Lovely, magical feeling Although easily confused with wind during subsequent pregnancies ...

oh bubbles popping is a great description! I thought of butterflies when I had the Gruesomes.
It's the "using your bladder as a trampolene" that gets a bit wearing after a while... :D

The boys play rugby in there, I swear! By month 7, I used to double over with an 'oof!' when our got too frisky in there. With it was more like an earthmover. She'd start at one side of me and my whole belly would undulate and heave until she got to the other side, displacing what seemed like bladder, liver, spleen and most of my guts on her way
But again, when they're asleep, I would tend to poke them awake so I wasn't 'alone'
Don't do that, kelli, treasure the quiet moments </advice
