We ended up getting her a Polly Pockets doll house, er a million tiny pieces, but at least they are all squishy soft plastic. (must have been designed by a parent who stepped on a few too many Barbie shoe while in their stocking feet)OWWW!
Well elwoodina finally videotaped something!
Me shovelling out from under the 14" of snow.
Or maybe it was little ellie making snow angels just past me.
Well we broke down and bought each other a few personal gifts after all. Now lets see if we ever get around to buying the new computer.
It turns out ellie loves egg nog just like her mom, a note to everyone still unmarried out there check eggnog preferences before taking the leap because it could affect generations to come!
MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL!!!

I dunno, it's just strange to have to chew something that is referred to as a drink!
(doesn't that describe most British beers?)

broelan Posted Dec 28, 2004
I've never had to chew eggnog...
You know you're supposed to throw it out after the date stamped on the carton.
Orange juice, now *there's* a beverage that you shouldn't have to chew!
Did Ellie like her dollhouse? Our kid made out like a bandit (which is different from no other year in memory). He got:
A Gameboy Advance (from paternal grandpa)
A remote control truck (from paternal grandma)
A remote control plane (from step-grandma)
A remote conttol humvee (from maternal grandma)
A remote control hovercraft (from me)
A slot car track (from great grandma)
I shall now go broke buying batteries.

Oh man! Look at that list of boys toys up there. *sigh*
I hope your bun is a girl broe, then I can send the tons of dolls and toy make-up and pink thingies and ... that have been piling up around here for 5 years. (And I'll send Auntie DFly over as a good influence on the tot)
Well the Christmas decorations start coming down this weekend. It'll be about a 2 week process.

Mine came down on New Year's day... not my choice, I'd like to leave them up a while longer, but Lord Scott thinks they should be down by New Year's day.
I've been putting up less each year, simply because it's hard to get them all put away in one day.

broelan Posted Jan 7, 2005
We had all ours down over New Year's weekend, I'm not usually in such a rush, but we've only got a couple of months to get the nursery finished and Christmas was just something else in the way. The Christmas stuff has always been stored in the room that will now have to be the nursery, so we're having to move everything to the basement (which, unfortunately, isn't under *our* house). But aside from needing to get everything out of the way, I'm really eager to get started on it!
I hope I have a girl, too, elwood . I'm sure if it is she'll have her own impressive collection of dollies and cosmetics - if the gifts we buy for our neice is any indication. Is ellie really 5 already?
The elwood MUSH club!
elwood Posted Jan 8, 2005
No she's not 5 yet. But she has had five Christmases!
We had the same problem with turning our storage bedroom into her nursery at our first house. We put all our Christmas boxes and tubs out in my yard shed then everything from the shed out to the barn. But I think she may be worth the effort. (she was the main reason to move to this big house now filled to the brim with beauty parlors, castle-tents, doll houses, etc.)
Now why arn't I in the other room this evening packing up like I said I would? Hmmm.

Uh oh!
A week has passed and we still haven't packed up Christmas!!!
I'll have to cut the petrified branches off the tree to get it out the door again this year. It's off to the fire pit with it to be the starter to our first bonfire of the summer as tradition has held since 1991. But with these bigger the bonfire has become a hazard last year the flames wilted the leaves on all the surrounding trees up to 40 feet!
We won't finish this weekend though, my sister and family are in from Boston and Saturday we will be at the International Auto Show in downtown Detroit. (our city's big annual event) Woohoo!

Lady Scott Posted Jan 14, 2005
You should probably really get that tree out of the house before it becomes a serious fire hazard - if it isn't already a fire hazard!
The elwood MUSH club!
elwood Posted Feb 3, 2005
Well the tree is out.
But all the decorations aren't down yet. I've been lazy about hauling the 19 tubs from out in the barn to the house through the 2 feet of snow. Why isn't it melting like every other year?
We've put away all the decorations that we store under the stairs in our house, that's something, right? I must be getting old...
We usually have a big SuperBowl party and that's normally our inspiration to get Christmas packed up, but, my sister-in-law gave us Billy Joel's and Twyla Tharp's "Movin' Out" tickets for that day. No party - no motivation.
I don't know if the Eagles can beat the Patriots but I'm sure Billy can kick Twyla's butt!

Christmas has been down and gone for several weeks now. But we're still dismantling the office so we can paint. I'm hoping to get the primer up next weekend, but I'm being realistic about it. It'll probably get done in another month.

Lady Scott Posted Feb 6, 2005
It was the winter that we had snowstorm after ice storm after snowstorm after icestorm all through January and February that finally made me see some kind of reasoning to putting the Christmas decorations away on New Year's Day. Or maybe it was the year we had the blizzard that dumped 3 feet of snow on us the first week of January.
Whatever the case, there was so much snow that it was impossible to even get to some of the decorations for weeks and weeks after Christmas.
Elwood, if you can't get them all down and put away in a reasonable amount of time, maybe you're just putting too many up to begin with.
I understand the temptation to just do as much as you can, and make it look truly wonderous for the season...
but there comes a point where you have to ask yourself if it's worth all the hassle involved. Especially since everything you put up, you eventually have to take down and put away again.
I've gotten rid of quite a few Christmas decorations over the last couple of years, and will probably get rid of even more over the next few years - there's just too many to deal with for such a short amount of time we get to enjoy them. I'd rather stick with the ones I truly love, and get rid of the rest.

elwood Posted Feb 10, 2005
Great advice. Now could you just have a little heart to heart with elwoodina?
We really can't blame the amount of decorations. We've just gotten very lazy the last couple years preferring to play with little ellie rather than do most of our chores of any sort. Mommy and Daddy Procrastination.
But reading broe's post reminds me that I didn't have ellie's nursury done until 2 weeks after her birth. My excuse there was she was two weeks early.
