9.5 GCSEs?? How on earth are you managing that...?
I mean, getting half a GCSE. I'm not questioning your skill at passing nine or ten GCSEs.

Ming Mang Posted Jul 16, 2001
We did RE Short Course. A Short Course, being short, only counts as half a GCSE... Which is just strange, because you have to know more for it than for the science double award...

Well, it's not that bad once you've got rid of the RE bit - then it's all philosophy. Only they will insist on keeping the RE bit in... *sigh*

Well, Prof, weather you're good at the subjects or not, you have too much time on your hands. GCSE German in Year Nine? My God, have you thought about Oxford Uni? A whole area for people like you. No way could I cope with all that. What with athletics, clarinet, guitar, band practises etc. I'm convinced I had a minor nervous breakdown at the end of year ten. But no-one believes me. Perhaps I work to hard. And yes, you are good at them- I saw your predicted grades!
Cornwall was great, thank you to all for asking. Beaches, sunburn, daily excursions... what more could one want from life?
What AS-levels are you all doing by the way? It's maths, chemistry, physics and design for me. I gotta be crazy.
Take it easy, everyone, and lay off the learning for crying out loud! 12 and 9.5 GCSEs! It's giving me a headache just thinking about it!

LOL! OK, so maybe my predicted grades give it away a little bit, but hey... And I'm not off to Oxford /just/ yet.
I don't have much time on my hands actually. I have far too much to do in my spare time: reading, writing, drawing, rendering, maintaining websites, going out with friends (though that's at the bottom of my list ), and so on...
I'm doing Maths, Physics, German and Computing. People might be expecting me to take five AS-Levels, but I honestly don't have the time to commit to that.
And don't worry: I'm not learning right now.

Writing too, eh? I do that- in the literature sence. Been trying to write a novel for some time, but I had a surge of ideas, which means I'm now trying to write about half a dozen novels at once. The furthest I've got on any of them is page twenty. That puts me about a tenth of the way through, tops, and with an average writing rate of three words a day (I only actually do any writing every two weeks or so), it's going be a long time before any hit the shelves...
Ha ha! Not going to Oxford /just/ yet? Why- do you need to pack first?
Ah, you're doing Maths and Physics too! We could compare notes... or I could just copy them off you... fine by me either way. You're on your own with the German though. Foreign languages? Errrrruuuuuuggghhhhhhhh-ah! No thanks!

A writer too, eh? Excellent! I've got a website about my current novel-in-the-works. Look for a refernece to LoaGO on my user page.
It's a tough activity, packing. Takes years! Two in this case.
LOL! Everyone copies notes off me! No problems though.
I know how you feel about languages. I thought I'd do German because I might as well not waste my time in Switzerland.

I'm a writer as well!!! You lot are scaring me...
Three years in this one...
Hey everyone!! Look at this idiot!! She's doing Maths, Further MAths, Physics, Chemistry AS and RE AS!! Like, this girl is mad!!
Gawd, how am I going to cope...?

Sorry. We just can't help it if we're good with words.
Three years in college?!?! Or are you taking a year off betwen college and uni?
There's nothing wrong with doing all that! I was thinking of doing Chemistry - as I ejoy all the stuff about atoms and whatnot - but I reminded myself that it also covered things like oil.
I was thinking of doing Further Maths too, but the work load is far too much for me, considering my extracurricular obligations.
By coming to h2g2 for regular stress relief.

Ming Mang Posted Jul 21, 2001
That's true...
Yeah, I'm probably taking a gap year to work. There's a local company that will sponsor me through uni if I work for them in my gap year. So I'll probably be doing that.
There is something wrong with it!! I won't be able to cope with it all!! And I don't want to drop any of them either... *sigh* It's all too much...

Heheh. You should write something for the post sometime! Well, OK, you've just had an interview, and you send me millions of questions for Ask Prof, but you know...
Hey, that's a neat deal! What'll you be working as there?
Hmm... I'd drop Further Maths if I were you. Normal Maths teaches you everything you need, and if you really want to learn more, you can just buy some more textbooks.

Ming Mang Posted Jul 21, 2001
I might, I might...
One day.
Well, it's an international engineering company, so hopefully some engineering!
No no no no no. I'm not dropping Further Maths. If I drop anything it will probably be chem.

Oh go on. Get cracking!
Good choice! That's my dad's field too!
Well, OK. I assume that's because of the Biology side of Chemistry?

Yes, it's a very good choice! I enjoyed work experience thoroughly.
Yep. And also because there is /no/ way I'm dropping anything else...

I worked at a company like that for work experience. Admittedly however, I did more organisational stuff than actual designing. I did do the Intranet site though.
Well, alright then. As long as you're happy.

To you too!
I designed something to go on fighter planes!
But I probably shouldn't go on about it, apparantly some of it is a bit sensitive...
No I'm not! It's too much work!!

Chris Tonks Posted Jul 21, 2001
Oh !
Oh yes? Sounds terribly interesting! So if I inspect any modern fighter plane I'll find a little scribble somewhere on it saying 'Patent pending, Ming Mang' or something?
Hmm... I'll have to think about this one. It must be possible to maybe get allowances on certain subjects, just so you can get all five subjetcs in. Surely!
*Thinks...*

!
*grins* No, it was a private thing for the company, so it may not ever be used... I'm not sure if that's good or bad...
Well... only one of them is an essay subject. But the others are all damn difficult...

Argh! Fiddlesticks, fiddlesticks, fiddlesticks!!
Bad that you didn't get your name on all the modern fighters, but good because I'm not quite sure how well it was designed.
I assume you're talking about RE? But I thought you only wanted to do the philosophical side of things. If so, why didn't you choose Philosophy?
