I realize that this is premature, but here is the latest count for cases and deaths:


Today's coronavirus / COVID-19 numbers in the US
From the Center for Systems Science and Engineering at Johns Hopkins University

Confirmed US cases: 24,255,934
Confirmed US deaths: 402,269

I did the math. That's about a 1.6% death rate. If a preponderance of the cases are too recent to have proceeded to either death or recovery, then the mortality rate may become higher.

Diseases do not recognise status! Diseases bring rich and poor to the same level.

So work together and lets defeat any enemy to "mankind"

I have handpicked a number of major nations and two smaller with deaths related to Covid-19.
Even if the statistics are taken from a reliable source (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) via Our World in Data) they should be taken with reservations, as the test strategies of the countries of the world are different, and there are undoubtedly in most places larger dark numbers, which the official statistics do not show.
The death toll is, despite different calculation methods, the safest measure between the countries.
All these data are from 22 January 2021.

What strikes me is that African and Asian countries are faring way better than South American. The South American continent is at the very top, followed by North and Central America, Europe, Asia and Africa.

Exactly, paulh. And that is why I mentioned how many deaths there are per million inhabitants.

I knew that Italy and Great Britain and the USA had suffered relatively high death rates per million, but I didn't know that Belgium was the worst case of all.

San Marino is actually the worst off: 1915.3 deaths per. Million. But it is such a small nation. The world's fifth smallest. Only 23.5 square miles, and very densely populated, so I left it out. It would be like comparing New York to Siberia.
65 of San Marino's 33,400 residents have died of or with Covid-19.

I live in a state that has the cream of the medical services. Our governor ran one of the finest HMOs for years. And yet we are lagging in getting the vaccine to people. I would rush to get the vaccine if it was available. But I have to wait for health care workers and people over 75 and people with two comorbidities to get their shots.

It's frustrating.

Same here, paulh. At the moment we are waiting for another new vaccine to be approved by the authorities. It is a little frustrating, but at the same time also reassuring that testing and approval is thorough and sound and not just rushed through. This is necessary not least because of the antivaxxers, of which there preferably should be as few as possible lest we'll never get herd immunity.

This priority list is as follows:

residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
all those 80 years of age and over and front-line health and social care workers
all those 75 years of age and over
all those 70 years of age and over and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals[footnote 1]
all those 65 years of age and over
all individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health...

It's hard to know what to believe regarding any of this.

Are there three times as many people exposed to Covid-19 as the reporting indicates? Are there some people who have the virus but don't test positive? Are there some false positives?

Is Covid-19 really several similar diseases?

As of this morning (January 26), 0.03 percent of Denmark's population has died with Covid-19.

That's only like the worst flu seasons here. But we are far from being over this pandemic ...

On the upside, all precautions against the pandemic (masks, disinfection of hands, social distancing) seem to have prevented influenza nearly 100 percent this season.
