I had too many things on my mind last, what with grocery shopping and Christmas shopping and picking up precriptions at the pharmacy. Anyway, I got the groceries, picked up some Christmas gifts at a bookstore, and finally stopped at the pharmacy 20 minutes before it closed. I got my prescription, paid for it, and then walked out without remembering to put my wallet back in my pocket. smiley - yikes A few hours later, I was getting ready for bed. I checked all the stuff I usually check, and rfealized that the familiar bulge in my ;ocket was missing. I looked every in the house and car, but no luck. smiley - sadface Around midnight, I checked my answering machine, and found one message waiting for me: someone from the pharmacy telling me I had left my wallet on the counter. I expect they'll hold it for me, but that particular pharmacy is part of a health center that is closed all day Saturday and Sunday. I can't get my weallet back until Monday. smiley - wah I don't dare drive anywhere, because my license and car registration are in the wallet. Likewise almost all the cash I had. I walked to the laundramat today, using one of those baskets on wheels. Tomorrow, I'll be stuck inside most of the day because of a big snowstorm that will hot tonight. I can take public transportation, but seeing a movie is out because movies cost more than I have on hand. smiley - cry

I'm very glad of that, too, prof. I've been on the other side of that a lot. Where I work, a lot of people leave all sorts of things. If I hand to hang on to enough of them, my work area gets very cramped. smiley - puff

I'm sorry to hear this Paul, but thank goodness you don't have to worry that you lost it in the street. It must be really inconvenient not being able to do all the things you need to achieve the weekend before Christmas though.

What would happen if you drove your car without your licence and so on? Here in England it is okay to do that, but in Spain you would get an immediate fine if you don't have your licence and insurance docs.

I was pretty sure I had lost it somewhere in the pharmacy or the parking lot next to it. I was considering going back and checking the lot.

Yes, I am very grateful to the person at the pharmacy smiley - smooch. Knowing where the wallet is takes some of the sting out of going without it.

That's rough.smiley - sadface Sorry to hear about it. But stay in and stay warm - you guys are getting all the terrible weather.

Down here, it was a lot of fooferah, but not much, as usual. I drove through some nasty snow/rain/sleet yesterday, though.

It is at this point that one usually starts rummaging in the sofa for change...

I have several cookie jars full of change. Tomorrow, weather permitting, I may walk to the store with 35 dimes to get a Sunday paper. smiley - winkeye

Very dear Paul,

But think how incredibly fortunate you were to have it returned to you !!!!!

Glass half empty or glass half full.??

New Year's resolution to be more optimististic. !

I think it is absolutely extraordinary that your wallet should have been handed in and you mist have a wonderful guardian angel watching over you. But it is also because you are a super person.!!

What a fantastic event to happen - and it must have been like the best christmas present ever.!!!
Are you taking the person who found it for you out to dinner and dancing. !!!!

with much affection

Christiane.

Alas, it hasn't been returned yet. The pharmacy doesn't reopen for another 21 hours. I plan to be there when the doors reopen. if I weren't snowed in right now, I'd walk to the nearst place that might have thank-you cards. Or, I might give her and amaryllis plant that I have here.

I'm so glad you will get the wallet back, Paul. I believe that most people are honest, it's just that we hear more about those who aren't. smiley - smiley

My husband and I went out for a late night dinner a number of years ago, and I left my purse there. We called the place, even though they were closed by the time we got back. I was really anxious, since I could have dropped it in the parking lot or wherever, and it was a fairly busy corner in Hollywood.

The next mornng we got a call from the owner, that he had it. I was particularly grateful, as he'd been a bit of grump the night before! smiley - laugh
I gave him the equivalent of a generous tip, and he was much happier to see us after that.. smiley - winkeye

once on corfu i forgot my wallet in the hotel and didn't notice until the waiter in a restaurant several miles away brought the bill

i told him i was very sorry and would it be okay if i came back and paid him the next day. i also offered him my passport as collateral

he flatly refused the collateral but said it was perfectly okay if i came back with the money some day

of course i paid him first thing in the morning the day after and gave him a big tip. it is nice to meet people who take a chance on total strangers and show them trust smiley - smiley

Yes, it is. In contrast, I knew someone who did exactly the same thing in Germany and was pursued for blocks by an angry waiter shouting 'Stop thief!' He outran the waiter, got to his hotel, and returned with the money.

The waiter was surprised that he came back.smiley - rofl

My own story has had a happy ending. The wallet was waiting for me when I returned to the pharmacy this morning. I will pick up a "Thank you" card as soon as I can, and send it. (While I was there, I went to the lab next door and had some blood drawn for my doctor.)
