Dashing through the snow,
At 40 MPH,
Wondering if the folks
Will stay up if I'm late,
Hoping for egg nog,
So I'll spend Christmas right,
What fun I-95 can be
On a New England night.
Ohh....
Shopping malls, traffic crawls,
Cursing all the way,
Oh, what fun it is to drive
I wish I had a sleigh.
Sleet and snow, slow we go,
Weather is no fun,
But if you don't spread Christmas cheer
You'll know Al-Qaeda won.

I didn't know my threads were so honored. Thanks for letting me know, Christiane.
My plans have been changed. No driving out to my parents' house on Christmas Eve so I could stay over and drive to my brother's on Christmas morning. I don't think they're set up for overnight guests any more.
This gave me the chance to spend Christmas Eve afternoon at leisure. I went to a video store that has a cafe area out front. I had coffee and their most luxurious fruit tart. Then I bought a video from them--it's one that my nephew wants for Christmas.
After that, I walked across the street to the movie theater and watched "The Road," which turned out to be depressing, and yet it took my mind off the stress of Christmas.

Very dear Paul,
Oh dear!
What is the "stress of christmas"????
I think that I am innured to any sort of stress. Perhaps it is my age - or the fact that I can cry or laugh my feelings out of any stress. I always think it is so sad that men are not"supposed" to cry. It relieves me of so much stress. !!and as soon as the tears are dry everything is forgotten and forgiven and the the sun is shining again. !! Mostly with no hard feelings.
with much affection
Christiane

Stress comes from trying to do too many things at once, or with very little time in which to do them so that you have to race very hard. I just barely got all the gifts bought for my relatives. There was a very nice video rental store person who sold me a video from his rental collection so I could give it to my nephew.

Thanks, Christiane. I had a lovely time, visiting my parents' house twice and my brother's house twice. I'm safely back home. I think everyone was happy.

you may be relieved to hear that i did not have any presents to buy, just rewrapped two of the presents i got from my company
it was a bit stress'ish to roast first a duck and after that a large piece of pork and have both ready for the xmas party, but i got over it with a lot of help from my youngest son, who obviously has inherited my interest in cooking - and eating

It's a sensible arrangement for those who like eating to develop skill in cooking. But it's also okay to engage a with even greater cooking skills and certain other charms.

The clouds are gone, and in the sky,
A single radiant star is gleaming.
Angels softly sing on high,
With light from Heaven gently beaming.

Y'all might like this. On Christmas Day I ran across a special on tv featuring our clever neighbours in the city of Raleigh, North Carolina.
They are into X-treme handbell ringing:

That does sound cool. All the instruments are made of glass?
Ben Franklin invented an instrument made of glass, which is still played, called a glass harmonica.

A question: is Urania the name of the club, or is it a place in Denmark? (Anywhere to do with Brahe's Uraniborg?)
